Individual Forums
What sites do you guys use to serve as a forum for your fraternity or sorority? Some of you use greek chat, but what about the others?
I may begin one for a group of us and I just wanted to get an idea of what's out there. Thanks!

Hi,
I have experience making websites for myself, and friends. I have used www.angelfire.com and www.geocities.com
I am currently using geocities, because I find that it is easiest. It is a branch of Yahoo (or at least you have to use your yahoo ID with them). It may seem overwhelming at first, but once you start tinkering around with the software, it's really easy. A lot of fun too. You or your sorority may even want to use web space available through your email account(s), or with a email software program like FrontPage. There are many choices out there. Feel free to email me if you ahve any other questions...

Alpha Gamma Delta has a great resourceful website at www.alphagam.net .
AlphaGam.net has different discussion forums that gets traffic every once in a while. In addition to that, Elise (the webmistress) has resources that we can use for our chapter websites (banners, graphics, etc.) We also have a chat every first Wednesday of the month. Our national website hasn't been updated in a loooooong time, so Elise also created a monthly newsletter. Collegiate and Alumnae chapters often submit information and news to let the AlphaGams know what's going on.
Feel free to check it out to get ideas for your forum. Good luck.

Do you have a listserv? E-mail discussion is very good for chapters as far as keeping everyone informed and being able to e-mail everyone with one address. Sure, you can sometimes get a lot of e-mails, but overall it is good to have. Try egroups, which is now YahooGroups, at http://groups.yahoo.com

My chapter of about 70 uses e-groups. It's nice because we can all communicate that way, however we had to set some rules...
such as no junk emails, no forwards and no personal emails. Otherwise it's too overwhelming.
Good Luckk.

One of our sisters boyfriends had to design a web page for a non-profit group, when he was in university, and he made one for us (how he pulled that one off, when the school dosen't recgognize greeks...I'll never know) so our site is somehow embedded through his email or school account BUT recently they added a message board on our site through ezgroups and we can chat on there!

We use egroups as well. And yes, definitely set rules to avoid an outrageous amount of emails.

I used homestead.com because the banners are on the bottom, it loads fast and is so easy to use (I am totally java script and html ignorant and I did it!) It also gives you options like changing your mouse to look like something else, or guest books, all kinds of neat things that arent hard to pull off!

Hey all I hope this helps, my sorority uses www.myfamily.com
It's an awesome little site for individual like forums stuff, you can post message, it lets u keep an updated address book, so u know where everyone is. It has a photo album, it notify 's you when someone makes a new post, it also has polls, and stuff for votes. It also reminds u of import dates , like birthdays and yada yada, I think u guys get the idea, but we use the site and it really helps us keep in touch with everyone, from chapter to chapter. Hope that helps
