Smile Frosh!

Hey everyone! My name is Jenn. I'm a Pre-Vet student at MSU, class of 2015. I didn't rush my first semester because I wanted to make the equestrian team first and I didn't know the complete finances for that. A lot of the sororities at my school met their quotas and aren't doing an informal rush in the spring. I plan to wait until fall of next year to rush but I would still like to see the Greek system and how it works throughout the year. I have friends in Sigma Phi Epsilon, Sigma Sigma Sigma, and Alpha Delta Pi. ADPi is currently having an informal rush process but I can't afford to pledge this year. Anyone have any tips for bulking up my resume for next fall?
I would really appreciate any hints or suggestions! Thanks!!

First, what 'MSU' are you talking about? Michigan State? Mississippi State?

Second, Sigma Phi Epsilon is a mens fraternity, just in case you were confused about something.

Third, did you make the equestrian team? What do you ride, and what is your discipline? Just an old horse person, and I love hearing about it!

Do you mean the Intercollegiate Horse Show Team at your school? I showed Intercollegiate at UK many years ago. The program was in its infancy then and now it has really grown. I'd like to hear more, too.

I'm an "Arabian" person ( I was going to say Arab; but thought that I could get reamed for that). Anyhow, I know that there are lots of equestrians on GC.

Straying further off topic, Barbino, I have seen one of Sheikh Mohammed's Arabians here in Dubai. His collection is apparently the best (biggest - everything here in Dubai has to end in 'est) in the world. Beautiful animals, and very interesting history. I'm not a horse person so I learned a lot that day!

I'm drooling already. Sheik Mohammed's horses are legendary, but probably the closest I'll ever get to one is on the pages of my monthly Arabian Horse World Magazine. He raises top show Arabs. What is interesting is that he also imports horses from America to add to his stock for type; and sells to breeders all over the world.

His horses are amazing whether you know horses or not. Thanks for sharing!

Sorry, blondestorm for going so far off topic. You asked a question and it deserves an answer. So I'll make a few suggestions. If you ride horses, stay active with it on campus and let the sororities that you recruit at know. It's a good hobby and lots of people are interested in horses (as evidenced here). Get to know people in all the houses on campus. You should meet alot of sorority women in your classes. Let them know that you are interested in Greek life. Make friends your first year, and be sure to get good grades if you will be going through next year. Try to secure recommendations (I'm not sure how competitive MSU is).

Enjoy your first year. You can try to bulk up your resume all you want, but the most important advice that I can give you is the GC standard: Be yourself. Let the real you shine so that the right chapter can pick you as one of their sisters.
