Hi, Britt789.
I highly recommend that you contact the NYC Alumnae Panhellenic for assistance with recommendations for Bama: http://nycap.wordpress.com/contact/
Also search the site for information about UA. There are numerous threads.
I am an officer for the Phi Mu Alumnae Chapter on Long Island but work in the city, PM me if you want to meet.
Good luck.

Alabama has a separate upper class quota so you would be included in that and not the regular quota....which could be helpful. But you will need recs for every chapter. They should be in no later than July 1 so you need to get moving.

Bama
Not all sororities at Alabama take advantage of upperclass quota...but it has made it a more level playing field for non-freshman women.
Grades are very important on this campus. Like others have said, recs are also very important on this campus and need to be sent in ASAP. Last year, over 50% of women going through recruitment were from out of state so it is not a disadvantage to not be a local...
Although I did not attend this university, I have been a frequent visitor over the past 3 years and have fallen in love with this campus and Tuscaloosa. Good luck!

Get your recs, get your outfits, and get humidity proof hairspray/makeup!

You didn't mention your GPA. Anything less than a 3.0 and your options will be VERY limited.

Haha and yes I have some heavy duty hairspray
However I am wondering what do you mean that not all sororities take advantage of the upperclass quota?
|
This means that just because they are permitted to take say, 5 upperclassmen as part of upperclassmen quota (the number is an example, I don't know the exact numbers), doesn't mean they WILL.

I can't remember exact numbers, but I know that some sororities seem to take more upperclassmen new members every year than others. Basically, sorority ABC always seems to have 1 or 2 upperclassmen in the new member class, and sorority DEF has more like 5+ per class. I don't know for sure which sororities fit into which category, so don't worry about that.
As for the GPA, though, that could limit your possibilities. A flat 3.0 is the minimum for almost every house. There are some houses that supposedly cut after a certain round if you're below a 3.2.
Therefore, my advice would be to work your butt off in those summer classes because the more you can raise your GPA this summer, the better. Also, finish getting those recs! It sounds like you're trying to do your best to be as prepared as possible, so I wish you good luck, and see you in August!

Then make sure you send an updated copy of your transcript and GPA to each chapter ASAP once summer school is completed so they can update their info.
