Pitt People Come Forth!
University of Pittsburgh greeks seem to be coming out of the woodwork lately- finally! I was getting lonely here! Let's hear what house you're in and how things are going in da Burg...
oh, and what's your favorite Primanti's sandwich while I'm at it? I'm kinda obsessed with their pastrami and cheese since I don't get home much!

Hey I love Greek Life at Pitt! I was recently voted External Vice President of our Panhellenic so I must like it some what! I want to do a lot for the system, which I think is getting stronger! I want to boast the fraternities at Pitt for having the strongest rush in 10 years!
As for the sandwiches in the 'burgh all I have to say is ugh! I am a Philly girl so I have to vote for a Buffalo Chix Cheese Steak from Steak and Hogie Factory!

Pitt people! Yeah! I think there's a couple others on here.
I just graduated, I'm a KD and was very active. I want to stay involved and keep the panhellenic going strong at Pitt.
And as for primanti's.... not really my fave. Although one of my sisters works there :O)

I know I don't technically count because I only got my Master's at Pitt and didn't pledge there, but I love the school and the Burgh is my favorite city!! It's all about the Smashed Potato Pizza at Fuel and Fuddle and Zaw's Asian Food in Squirrel Hill.
KappaStarboy, aka SigEpRaider, is a recent Pitt grad, August of 2001. He hates Primanti's, loves Pamela's...the one in Oakland...I used to live within walking distance of the one in Squirrel Hill and we would go there sometimes
I only ate there once, on a date (not with KStarboy!). I think I had some kind of turkey sandwich. It was kinda bland, I had to put Tabasco sauce on it, but I'm willing to give it another chance when I go to visit this winter.

I dont go to Pitt- but I live here in Pittsburgh! I love the city- I love Oakland! heh! We did have a chapter at Pitt, our Iota, but I dont know when they closed. Can anyone there find out for me? And- if you hear that your Panhellenic feels like expanding- nudge them toward Phi Sig! Pitt helped found our chapter at Clarion!
Annnnd, dood, Im up for some GC meetin- if anyone is in Pittsburgh at the moment...

I'm not sure when Phi Sig went off Pitt's campus.... i saw on your nationals webpage that the chapter was founded around 1924. I imagine it went dormant at around the same time my chapter did, in the 30's. We came back in 79 though.
I wish we could expand! For such a large school, our rush numbers aren't all that high, and a lot of girls drop out. Plus they usually don't run rush correctly- quota is almost ALWAYS too high. They set it before pref. But COBing has become huge on the campus (we COB'ed 12 out of the 23 members of our fall pledge class- i think just about every sorority COBed this year).
I think if we did expand, Kappa Alpha Theta would probably try to go for it- they left several years ago very suddenly after a few bad rushes (they had been a huge house before) and still have a house here.
I'm all about Pittsburgh Greeks! :O)

Hey, Pitt people.
Can someone list all the sororities currently at Pitt? I've checked the Greek life page and the links have been "coming soon" (but of course not arriving) for probably, oh a year now.

Current sororities at Pitt:
Alpha Delta Pi
Alpha Epsilon Phi
Chi Omega
Delta Delta Delta
Delta Phi Epsilon
Delta Zeta
Kappa Delta (that's me! yeah! :O) but i'm now an alumna :O(
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Sigma Delta Tau
Sigma Sigma Simga
Theta Phi Alpha
And i'll try to find out about getting the webpage up. One of my sisters is current Panhell President and i spoke to her at length about ideas. I also think that one of my sisters applied to be webmaster at the end of the year. Next time i see one of them online i'll ask what's up. This is vital for recruitment!

I'm a Pitt alumna - but not a sorority member. I found GC a while back, wondering what I'd missed in college re: the Greek experience, and it's been fascinating reading the posts here on occasion.
Is Kappa Kappa Gamma still in the duplex that they shared with Kappa Alpha Theta? I don't know much about Greek life, but I was surprised to hear that "a few bad rushes" was enough to hurt Theta. Even among my fellow non-Greeks, Theta was known as an institution: great girls, long history at Pitt, nice-looking house, and I never heard a bad thing about them!
Oh well, just wondering. I work downtown now and miss Pitt and Oakland... and the quiet lounges in the Student Union. A gal just can't find a quiet place to read downtown during her lunch hour!

Yes, Kappa Kappa Gamma is still living in the duplex. Theta's half is occupied by independents.
I was surprised to when i learned the history of Theta on our campus. They had been very good, winning a ton of awards, always at total, then i guess they had a couple bad rushes and it just all went down. When i rushed in Fall of 99, they only had like 6 sisters (one of which was a middle aged woman....we never knew if she was an alum or a sister. She rushed us so i guess it was a sister. Very uncommon for our greek system), and had other chapters from nearby helping them. They only preffed one girl and went defunct from there.

I think the sororities at Pitt go through cycles as far as their strength and numbers. When I rushed in 1985, there were less than 10 Kappa Alpha Thetas. They were considered one of the weaker houses. Then in, I believe, 1988, they recolonized and sent in some incredible rushers to choose the new group of sisters. From then on, they just got stronger and stronger, more visible on campus, etc. I am surprised they went defunct due to numbers.
