I spent plenty of time at parties without drinking and still had fun. Not everyone in a chapter drinks, either.
Generally speaking, no one will care if you don't drink, so long as you aren't super self-righteous/"holier than thou" about it toward those who DO choose to drink.

I have been to a ton of frat parties without drinking and still had a lot of fun. It helps if you drink something with caffeine or sugar in it so you are still alert and hyper without the alcohol

I don't drink either. I tried it once in college, but I just never liked the taste of alcohol. You can still have fun/party without drinking. The biggest thing is don't start drinking because you see other folks doing it, or because it's the "in" thing to do. Be your own man.

another thing to keep in mind is that at any given party, there will be lots of people staying sober for the night in order to DD. i don't drink and my sisters respect that, but it's still nice to know that i'll have some company since the DD always rotates. with at least one person staying sober per car, people have definitely found ways to be sober and have fun at parties

Frankly, you might want to plan on not staying too late because as people get drunker they got WAY less funny, regardless of what they think. HA! My husband no longer drinks, and he's always the life of the party, but we're never the last ones to leave if there's a lot of drinking going on because it just gets boring.
You'll have some people pressure you about drinking, and I've always found that utterly odd, but it always seems to be the guys who are not quite as smooth as they think they are. If you're with a cool group of guys you'll be fine, and particularly if you do more than your share of DD duty. Not every time but maybe a little more?
If you can, attend a party before pledging to see how the guys react to you. My guess is you'll be fine but if you feel uncomfortable, dump em and find a different group.

LOL This. That's exactly what I would do. I've never liked being around drunk/buzzed/"a little tipsy" people. The first sign of it and I would leave.

At schools in big cities this is rarely the case since a lot of people live within walking distance or use public transit (unless people drove in from the suburbs, but that was rare).

for awhile it's ok because people get looser and more friendly, which is great for the sober guy who finds girls really approachable, but at some point that turns from cute to gross. And then it's time to go home.
The Glee episode that discusses alcohol explained the different varieties of girl-drunk. It's the current one for me so it must be about 6 weeks old. But it put the nail exactly on the head. At first I thought, hmmmm, they're really glamorizing drinking, but it didn't take long for the harsh reality to pop up, except that teenagers don't get 3 day hangovers.
