a spring rush?

So I'm a freshman- excuse me, first year- at W&L, and I decided not to rush this term (our rush is in the winter). I still have mixed emotions about it all; I came very, very close to rushing, but because other stuff took my attention, I decided I did not have the time to.

Anyway, I've heard about Spring Rush through the grapevine. Unfortunately, that's all I've heard, and I'm slightly curious at the moment. So my question would be, does it really exist? How does it differ from the regular rush at W&L? And does anyone have enough experience with it to know if people go through it successfully, or am I better off rushing next year/not at all?

A. If you don't have time for recruitment, you probably don't have time to be in a sorority. Reflect where sorority membership ranks among your extra-curricular interests. Consider if the benefits exclusive to sorority membership over other clubs on campus will make it a priority in your eyes. Learn to manage your time and prioritize, even if you don't go Greek.

B. I do not know about specifics of spring recruitment at W&L, if parties are open or if chapters quietly COB. All I can say is talk to the Greek Life Office to find out if chapters are eligible and participating, let your Greek friends know you're interested, and keep an eye out for recruitment parties. Oh, and keep an open mind.

There is no such thing as Spring Rush for sororities at W&L. I'm relatively certain that all sororities are at or near total, so the prospect of COB is low. COB at W&L is not advertised at all. Your best bet is to rush next year. Sophomores who have never rushed before have a decent chance of getting a bid (I would say most if not all chapters take a sophomore each year). If you have friends who are greek (at W&L, I'm sure you do), let them know you are interested in greek life. DO NOT TELL PEOPLE YOU WANT TO BE AN XYZ. It is THE easiest way to tank your sophomore recruitment. Even if all your friends are XYZ, try to let it be known that you are interested in all chapters.

At W&L, everyone knows who's an independent. If a chapter is COBing, and are interested in you, they will contact you.

Their chances are that good, huh?

Well, there are 6 groups, and there's just not that many sophomore girls who are independent AND want to go through rush (/again). Probably 10 per year, and at least half sometimes more of them get placed. A lot of the ones who don't make it were rushing a specific chapter (and everyone else knew it wasn't going to happen there).
