Making my badge into a ring
I really miss wearing my badge and would like to have it made into a ring. I do not like the ring adapter sold by HQ's jeweler. That is the one where you pin your badge into the ring. I think the points would get caught & snag on everything.
I would like to do something different. Any ideas? I have a small crown badge with pearls. The only thing I can come up with is to buy a plain gold, oval, flat signet ring & have my badge permanently attached to it. I am not sure if the work would damage the pearls, though.... What do you ladies think?

It depends, I think I read somewhere that with laser soldering it wouldn't damage the pearls, but with heat soldering it would. I'm not exactly sure though.

thetalady, if you do it, and like it, would love to see photos.
I bought a badge holder from J.Lewis Small at Convention & am pleased with how it looks. I've messaged HJ Greek to see if they still have the dies for solid badge holders (it is usually custom, due to fitting the clasp to the holder) and J.Lewis Small is no longer offering the solid badge holder option on their website.
Come to think of it, I should contact the Fraternity Jeweler to see if they still offer the option of a solid badge holder. I find that I wear a necklace often, more so than a ring.

My 2 cents: I've tried on the ring adapters and they look pretty, but the badge rattles around and the top/bottom are very pokey. If you're really set on getting a ring, it's better to go a local jeweler and have them build a bezel for you in the shape of the kite. I've seen it done, and it's very pretty.
cautions: 1) they will likely have to cut the pin stem & catch off the back when mounting it in the ring, so you're stuck. no more badge to pin on your clothing. 2) if you wear the ring every day, the itty bitty pearls will start to degrade from all the wear/tear/soap/dirt/etc. 3) cost. custom gold work is $$$ (even the gold alone!) plus if it's soldered, you have to go w/laser ($$$) so you don't burn the pearls out.
Possible solutions: pick up a second badge and have that one made into ring so you still have your original to wear and don't screw up the pearls. Or go with the pendant option that AzTheta was suggesting. There are solid and open pendant designs last I asked. IMHO, the solid one looks better but it is custom order so they can cut the holes in the back for the pin/catch. I personally have a solid pendant with a very large crown pearl badge.. I love it and wear it a LOT, plus I like that it is a non-permanent option in case I ever want to remove the badge.

Thanks for the great points, Kaokite! Unfortunately, my original badge was stolen when we were hit by burglars many years ago They took my entire jewelry box, including my badge. The badge I have now came from... well, you know where.
I also have a little tiny badge "replica" with a long tail, kind of like a Dyer badge. No pearls on it... maybe I will try to make that into a ring instead & keep my current badge to wear as a pin.

@kaokite, thanks for the idea on a kite-shaped ring bezel. I would love to see a photo of your solid badge pendant.
To avoid the rattling around in my open kite badge holder pendant, I use a badge guard. It keeps the badge snugly in place. Wonder if that would work with the badge holder ring that's currently available for sale?
@thetalady, would like to see a photo of your "tiny badge". Is it like a recognition pin?

AZTheta-
I am pretty sure that KaoKite told me that what I have is a recognition pin. I see no way to upload a picture, though. Can anyone help me? I can email pictures of the small pin next to a small crown pearl badge & a quarter for presepctive.
ETA: I don't have privileges to post pics/ attachments. Not sure why not. Maybe someone else can do it for me?
