I've seen some, but not all of those before - they are truly incredible!
Thanks for sharing!

Those are amazing. I think we get so used to seeing things in black & white that we think the people really were black and white (and not really people...for lack of a better way to put it).
The ones of the bright red cathedral and the dog are my favorites.

OMG!!!! This is absolutely AMAZING!!! And the pics were ridiculously clear, and did not look "colored over" at all. I love old photography, but looking at photos like this, I got a different feeling. It didn't feel like I was trying to feel history at all, ... it felt like I was THERE ... present day. A very interesting feeling. Thank you so much for posting this!

Ugh, that was the most boring thing ever. Seeing old ass photos in color is spooky as hell. I felt like they were watching and damn near stalking me. Thanks, Daemonseid, for nothing.
Jes joking. Interesting to see some coloreds from back in the day.

Those are awesome pictures! All of the clothing and hats were so beautiful. I'm gonna send this to my dad now.

They weren't colored over. The photographer "used a specialized camera to capture three black and white images in fairly quick succession, using red, green and blue filters, allowing them to later be recombined and projected with filtered lanterns to show near true color images."
They are amazing photos. They put you right there at that moment. Thanks for sharing!

Proof I'm an anthropologist, looking at the people and the ethnic/physical diversity fascinated me. One can really see the diversity of that area of the world encompassed by "Russia" from the Finnish end to the Asian end. It really helps visualize the concept that once people left Africa they went into Central Asia and populated the New World, Asia, South East Asia, the Pacific Island, and North & South America. The faces in his pictures really tell that story.

I caught that ...
I wish they'd used this technology in America during that time period (which they probably did, but we just don't know yet). I would love to see my sorority's founders in photos like these.

Sounds like something that was expensive. I'm suppose it is possible there are plates from that time period around for the USA, but they are probably in a private collection if they survived.
