I'm really starting to get sick of people saying "the unity of Iraq must preserved."

I don't think it should be at all.

I get that, I just think that trying to divide it would be making a hard task into an impossible one, or an impossible task into a Sisyphean one.

Ha! I thought I would have to double check my spelling, but firefox actually knows how to spell it.

No one needs to try and divide it. It's already divided. We(sterners) just need to let it fall.

We aren't really obligated at all to make sure everything stays peaceful, this is a huge waste of time and money.

Honestly, I argue, since we went into Iraq and took away their government we're kind of responsible for fixing it.

So we would have to 'divide' it and make sure all was hunky dory before we left.

Yeah, and I argue that since their head of state tried kill our (former) head of state, that a single bullet from a well placed sniper.

What is your reasoning for us being obligated to make things all hunky dory?
I don't really feel we owe them that. Plus, it stands in the way of self-determination.

We are obligated to make things all hunky dory because we are the ones who destabilized the country in the first place. Saddam was an evil bastard, but he was a damn good administrator. And I don't see us providing support standing in the way of self-determination.

Who tried to kill who? Sorry, feel like I'm missing something.

And ^^^ answers your second bit. We (under false pretenses IMO) took out their government. We have an ethical obligation to re-stabilize them.

It's also in our best interest that their government isn't taken over by groups who would, I don't know, want to retaliate for our invasion of a sovereign country.
