New SCOTUS nominee
Elena Kegan: First woman dean of Harvard Law School. Clerked for Thurgood Marshall, long history of political involvement. I know some of you are probably familiar with her.. so, what do you think?

Yay for another woman on the court...I'm happy that we're getting close to parity! I'm not surprised either, Kevin.

Even bigger deal for the LGBT crowd..
It looks as if we have the first transgendered Supreme Court justice!

This picture contradicts you.
She looks like my uncle and she probably played in the NFL. I've seen much more convincing transgendered people. Shit, that one male/female on Real World was more convincing than this one.

She looks like Will Ferrell's impersonation of Janet Reno on SNL.

This kind of post makes me absolutely giddy with delight that this woman is about to become one of the most powerful people in the world. She'll be telling Elephant Walk what he can and cannot do for the rest of her life, and we'll get to watch him squirm under the reality that she owns him. I hope she lives to be a hundred and ten. I'll be enjoying every minute, EW.

hahaha, you're right
ETA: She's never been a judge. Has anyone else on the Supreme Court not been a judge?

It drives me absolutely crazy that so often, people think it's ok to criticize women on the basis of their looks instead of on the quality of their work.

I don't think this is a gender issue (criticizing the woman based on looks); I think there would be a similar response if the nominee were an effeminate male.

You may be right. So the "problem" is more that she looks masculine than she wouldn't be considered attractive? That makes some sense, although I still think it's extremely pathetic. Because there are certainly some male justices who are extremely hard on the eyes (for example, Scalia), and I don't remember people bringing looks into the conversation when they were nominated---but they don't exactly look effeminate.

William Rehnquist, who went to become Chief Justice.

I think you can criticize them on both.
But I don't know the body of her work because I don't have the time to go look it up (nor do I really care, either). But all I have to do is look at her and realize she's a dude.

Ha!! Great post.
BTW there is very little body of work to go on.
Reminds me of the Aerosmith tune... "Dude, looks like a lady" 'cept in reverse.
