Anyone going to a Race for the Cure event? Ours is this Sunday in Nashville. I can't wait to see the survivors and their families. I'll probably cry :*( I can't run very well cuz I have athsma, so I'm volunteering...I think I'm supposed to hand out water bottles

There is no offical RFTC in Tallahassee, but we do volunteer at 2 different breast cancer-related events in the area. The Women's DIstance Festival in October and in the spring, Beta Gamma chapter runs a Race to Live, which benefits Komen.
Last week, BG hosted the first annual Crown Classic Flag Football tournament on campus and raised $6000 for Foundation/Komen.

Wow! That's great! I have not had any family cases of breast cancer, but the mother of my best friend in Junior high died of breast cancer when my friend was only 16. When I moved away, I knew that her mom had been diagnosed, but I had not kept in touch with her for a while, and a year later I found out through another friend that her mother had passed away. It really hurt me because I knew her mom and that she had already suffered from diabetes her whole life and had trouble walking, but it hurt me even more that I could not be there to comfort my friend in her time of need.
It made me feel extremely guilty because my friend and I had had an unresolved arguement before I moved away, and I knew that if we had just appologized to one another, perhaps she would have called me when her mom died and I could have been there for her. :*(

Hi ZTAs!!
On October 21, 2001 the ZTA chapter here held their own ZTA5k! I ran in the race (supporting my greek sisters!) and had a blast. it is such a great cause, and you should be soo proud of your ZTA sisters here! Here's a picture of them:

That's awesome that you ran for our sisters and for breast cancer! Wow, that's a pretty big chapter, isn't it? It seems at least ten or twenty people larger than our chapter.

We have about 70 the last time I checked. I think it's great though...somewhat big, yet small enough for all of us to be really close. The theme for one of the rush parties this year was "Zeta...Where Everybody Knows Your Name." They showed us a video with pictures and in the background they played the themesong from Cheers. It was really cute!

yeah. but it's all good, Michelle. There are definitely advantages to having a small chapter. On my campus, Phi Mu is the smallest and has 42 sisters, but they also have one of the strongest sisterhoods on campus! Meanwhile, I am still trying to learn all the names of our 44 pledges from formal recruitment. (Of course, part of that could be due to the fact that my brain has turned to mush this semester, but ya know, no biggie...thinking is overrated)

Well, we met at the chapter room at 5:30am to go to Nashville for the Race for the Cure yesterday. At first we helped out at the Survivor's stand, and then we handed out water to all the runners and walkers as they went by. Afterwards some of us had water fights LOL. The people running were really greatful to us for having water there. It was neat seeing people wear different signs that said "In Celebration of" and "In Memory of". There were people of all ages and both male and female there. It was awesome! The local news had estimated 10,000 people to be there.
