Recruitment at Ohio U?
My sister is a senior in high school, and has decided to go to Ohio University for school this fall. She wants to be greek, like her big sister . Sadly, she's a Kappa Alpha Theta legacy, and OU doesnt have a Theta chapter. Can someone tell me what OU's rush is like, and what the houses have to offer? I dont mind if your opinion is biased or not. Are letters of rec necessary? Thank you!

Hi, I'm not at OU (see my username) but I have friends who went there.
It's not competitive as far as I know. All of the chapters are pretty great. They also have some beautiful homes.
Recs aren't needed, but if she has access to recs, they can't hurt.

Cosign on the above. I have had friends go though and have very successful recuitments with no recs.
There are OU alumnae on this board who may be able to help more, however.

ADQTpiMel's (sp?) sister went through recruitment last year at OU and Mel wrote her story up. It should be easy to find in the archives. The houses in Athens are beautiful, and right in the heart of the campus. Recruitment is not cuthroat, and I believe quota is in the 30's. Good luck to your sister! I love to hear about recruitment stories for Ohio schools.

Awesome ladies, thanks!
Oh that was a great read! Thanks for posting that link! We have a few connections... I have a cousin-in-law who is an AOPi at OU, and my sister and I have a cousin who was a Pi Phi at Hillsdale in Michigan (and I know she would be thrilled if my sister were one too). I have friends from high school who went Chi O and DG in college. But otherwise... things are wide open. I've told her it's early, she has lots of time to look around at websites for herself if she wants. But otherwise, just to have an open mind.

OU is not competitive, as others have said -- anecdotally, my sister didn't get cut by any chapters and most girls in her Rho Gam group didn't get cut heavily. I think my sister had recs for ADPi, Alpha Gam, Chi O and DZ, but they weren't necessary.
The houses are adorable and centrally located, and everyone has a house (I THINK ADPi has the smallest house -- lives around 30 -- and DZ has the biggest house).
Formal recruitment definitely isn't the be-all, end-all, either -- quota is usually in the high 20s/low 30s. I know that ADPi CORs steadily throughout the year (and they are a more "popular" chapter or whatever), so I'm guessing most chapters do as well. Lots of sophomores and even juniors rush and do well.
PMing you as well.
