SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A fraternity at the University of Utah has been shut down by its national office.
Beta Theta Pi's national office, based in Oxford, Ohio, cited years of failure to improve bad behavior at the nearly century-old chapter.
The chapter will resume recruiting in the fall of 2011 after a $500,000 renovation of the house. . . .

. . The suspension came at the insistence of local Beta alumni, who were displeased with the chapter's misconduct and with support from the university.
Chapter president Nikhil Limaye did not respond to e-mail and voice mail messages.
The Beta move took U. officials by surprise because the chapter appeared to be cleaning up its act, said Jay Wilgus, assistant dean of students over Greek life.
