Prospective rush help need to get in

I am very interested in getting into a sorority at my university. I am a junior and this will be my first rush. I have attended all of the events that the sorority sponsors. , but I have not been able to meet or connect with the girls that much. I have a different major from them so I never get a chance to meet with them. I have a good GPA and i know I would be a good fit. Please offer suggestions that might benefit me in my efforts. Once i tried to talk to one of the leaders and she was real stand offish. I am very quite but not shy. I am very friendly but not the type that is right in your face and use to small talk. What should I do...Help, I think the rush will be this spring 2010...........

Your title says "Need to get in"... yet you're trying as a Junior. Why do you all of a sudden need to get in MORE THAN halfway through your college experience, when you will have about 1 years' worth of activity in the sorority?

Something about the OP reads NPHC or, at-least, non-NPC (Given that she doesn't know the exact date of the rush and that's something that the NPC would advertise well, correct?), in which case this might be the first opportunity that she has had, or is qualified, to attend a rush.

I really did not mean "really needing to get in" I used the wrong word. I have had a strong desire to become apart of the organization since I have been a child. I am impressed by what the organization represents and the respect and honor that each member displays. My first two years, the chapter at my campus was suspended, and then I transfered. I feel I do still have time to work hard in the organization so my activity will count because I am dedicated. I feel that I would represent the organization very postively. I just wanted to get suggestions on ways I can become more active in the events so that I can meet some of the ladies and they get to know me. The rush will be in the spring of 2010 and I just wanted to get some suggestions on things I can do become more productive at the events and how I can also be an asset to the organization as a prospective member. Thanks for all of your help and suggestions....

Thanks, you are right. The chapter at my former college was suspended the first two years and then I transfered to another university for academic reasons. Thsi has been the first time I have had an opportunity to become apply.

What kind of "academic reasons"?

I have maintained my 3.8 GPA but the former college did not have a minor field of study for me to enroll in and tuition was no longer affordable.

Chapter website, chapter programs, etc. You can and will figure this out on your own.

If the non-NPC thing is accurate, it doesn't matter that she's a junior...or a senior for that matter.

I may be misunderstanding you here, but if you don't connect with the girls now, do you think you'll have a connection with them as a member? You also mentioned that when you tried to talk to one of the leaders she seemed standoffish. Are you sure this is the group you belong with? You want girls you can truly connect with and be close to. True, you won't be close with all of your sisters, but will want to at least feel something of a connection to most of them!

ETA: It sounds like you may be looking at a non-NPC group, which I don't have any experience with. My advice may not apply in that case, because I know things are sometimes done differently outside of NPC!!

Oh, ok. Sometimes people transfer to start over their GPA. Congrats on the 3.8!
