At this point I'm still trying to wrap my head around the idea that I started school 20 years ago, and vividly remember all of it (including the Berlin Wall).

Just the whole "war on terror" thing which will be a never ending thing, because it's more like we're fighting an ideal if anything. How can anyone win that kind of a war?

The second decade of the new century starts in 2011. There was no year zero -- the year after 1 BC (BCE) is AD 1 (1 CE). So the first century (and the first decade of that century) started with the year 1, the second century with the year 101, the third century with the year 201, etc., until you get to the 21st century (and the third millenium) starting in 2001. Likewise, the second decade started in 11, the third in 21, etc.

2011 = first year of the second decade of the 21st century

I think most people start counting decades with the zero year and intend the first thing I said.

This decade marked the end of an era in which I could:

*show up to the airport 30 minutes before my departure time and make it through security and to my flight on time with no problems.

*pack ANY size of Bath and Body Works spray in my carry-on.

*pack a Gatorade without having it thrown out because it could potentially be a Molotov cocktail.

*go through security without having to take off my shoes.

Sounds silly but I miss that, lol.
