Post In The Dark

I've been watching and listening as people share their personal stories on television discussing their lives since the September 11th attacks. I listened to this one widow talk about how she couldn't locate any important documents because her husband handled this and that. Another talked about not being able to pay her $2,200 mortgage. However, she did say her husband was barely able to pay it when he was alive.

This is just sad. I felt especially sorry for the first widow. When I lived at home, my mom always made sure everyone in the house knew where important documents were kept "just in case". Even now that I'm married, I handle the joint checkbook and keep all the records in order, but my husband knows where everything is "just in case".

I couldn't imagine being left in the dark like that. You just never know.

I totally agree. As a matter of fact, I'm getting ready to mail my Dad a letter detailing where to find my important papers, etc. & what to do with my valuables should something happen to me. It's a crazy way to think now, but I feel it's realistic...and, I don't have a will. Sure the government is on "high alert" & e' thang...BUT! I see major security gaps every day that I leave the house to go to work...which I know that the National Guard & police can't be EVERYWHERE...hence the reason I'm sending the letter to my Dad. I'm even thinking about making copies of my apt keys to send to him, as well.
