Gun toting mom found dead

http://www.rr.com/news/topic/article...ound_shot_dead

Sad story. I have to admit though I was quite intrigued by the incident they mentioned when she carried her Glock to a soccer game. I had never heard about that.

It's funny to me that you folks in the northeast have these attitude surrounding guns. In Oklahoma, it'd be odd to be at a soccer game where at least one parent wasn't packing heat.

Gotta ask...BUT...why would a soccer mom need heat at a soccer game?

This is why the NFL can't risk a franchise (having a losing season) there....LOL

it would be murder!

It's not all the Northeast--I'd say just the areas around the big cities. I know that there are wide swaths of upstate New York and Pennsylvania, not to mention rural/exurban New England, where packing heat is pretty common. Also, didn't you ever watch The Sopranos?

I grew up in Florida which is Gun World. Did I ever tell the story about my nephew wanting to join the NRA?

Personal protection -- the same reason most folks carry a concealed weapon. I don't personally carry, but lots of my friends do. When I start doing criminal defense work (I'm putting my name on the public defender's appointments list at the federal courthouse), I'll definitely be getting my conceal & carry license. I'd be a fool not to.

This lady was apparently a victim of domestic abuse. She may have been carrying the weapon to protect her from her husband, a parole officer who also probably carried.

Great, so they shot each other.

I got that part.

But, I mean this isn't the wild wild west (sorry I live on the east coast so forgive my not understanding) but what kind of personal protection do you need watching your kids play an organized sport?

(I'm asking rhetotically because while it makes sense to you, I can't wrap my head around it regardless of the explanation.)

Usually, when someone carries a weapon, they carry it with them at all times when permitted. If you believe you need a firearm for personal protection, why would you ever leave it at home?

A friend of mine has had to draw his weapon twice. He lives in a bad part of town. Both times, he successfully avoided being mugged while filling up at a gas station. He never had to fire, but the gun very well may have saved his life. It definitely protected his stuff.

I guess but just for myself, I grew up in some pretty rough parts of town but never needed to pack, much less needed to be packing to go to a kiddie sporting event so the significance is lost on me with this story.

Still tragic all the same.

A lot of folks live in houses without security systems and never need 'em. Same story. It's just an additional measure of security. I know if someone wants to make me a victim, I'd much rather have a gun than not have a gun.

When you say "you folks" who are you referring to exactly? I almost get the impression that I'M included in that statement.

Oh shut the hell up.

Really though... attitudes are different in the northeast with regard to concealed weapons. Look at the laws. I don't know whether you're in the NE or not. If you are, then yes, I'm referring to you. If not, then no. It really isn't too difficult to divine the meaning of what I said.

A tad oversensitive, aren't we?

I believe he's referring just to Northeasterners, and I think he's correct (at least in New England). I don't know many people who carry handguns. It's just not something we see a whole lot in the New England area (especially around the cities, as Munchkin noted).

You didn't need to use the word "you" because that implies that you think I am included in your ideas about how people who live in the northeast feel about guns. You don't actually KNOW my feelings about guns so don't lump me in that group.

That's not being oversensitive because he's lumping me into the category of how he THINKS people in the northeast feel about guns. He doesn't know ANYTHING about how I feel about carrying guns.
