Recolonization Question!
when a national sorority is recolonizing how is the number of max bids given out determined? Are colonies allowed to give out more bids to get their numbers up? Also, when you get a bid from a colony how long does it take to be initiated? Are there certain criteria that must be met by the colony members before they are no longer a colony(ie community service hours)?

*Every sorority does this differently, but it's usually determined by average chapter size. Example: if every chapter on campus is about 100 girls, they'll take at least that and possibly more. It depends on the size they need.
*How long it takes varies per the national organization's policies and the goals that the colony has to meet in order to be installed. In Sigma, this usualy takes about a semester, but it depends on how things go and if goals are being met.
*There are goals that must be met, but what those are depend on the national organization and the goals it sets. Also, there will be consultants and advisors assisting the colony every step of the way. So the members have plenty of help.

I believe the number of new members is set by the College Panhellenic. The re colonizing organization will have goals, but if the CPH determines that the new recolonizing group may not exceed total, then they will be limited to that. On the other hand, they may agree to average chapter size. Usually this is agreed upon prior to the recolonization effort.

If you are going through the interview process for a colonization, these are good questions to ask - how many are you being allowed to take, what's the process for the colony to become a chapter, time frame, etc.
