Muslim recruitment

Hello everyone
I am an eighteen year old saudi arabian muslim girl living in Texas who is wanting to rush this year. I have a few questions on rush process. My whole life i wanted to be in a panhellenic sorority.

1) Does it matter that I am an arab muslim to rush for a panhellenic sorority?
2) Will i be required to drink? Because my religion will not allow me to do that though i can party and have as much as i can without drinking?
3) Will i be considered lessofapledge because i don't drink?
4) How do i apply for rush week?

Thank you everyone for your help!

1. Depends on the chapter - but it will not be a problem for any NPC chapter's membership requirements afaik.

2. NO - many NPC members do not drink.

3. NO - while there may be a pledge class or two where this might be the case, I feel secure in saying that 99% of chapters would not only not encourage new members to drink but would actively seek to NOT have underage drinking at their events.

4. Register with your college panhellenic AND with your nearest Alumnae Panhellenic.

Good luck.

Same thing. Campus panhellenic includes sororities from national panhellenic.

yes.

it might be a good idea for you to do a little research. you can visit npcwomen.org, where you can learn about all 26 of the national panhellenic conference sororities. you might also visit the greek life site on your university's website to learn more about the npc chapters that are on your campus.

I'm not sure what Texas school you'll be attending, but if it's a big school, it might help to start looking into recommendation letters.

Good luck!

On a national level, it won't matter, but how you are perceived by the individual local chapters could be very different. It all depends on the chapter's personality and the school environment. Of course you probably wouldn't feel comfortable being in a party house anyway, but I would be cautious about bringing drinking up or emphasizing it during recruitment. Even though there may be a large number of girls who don't drink in a chapter, if it's something you emphasize in your conversations you may come off to them as that girl who is militant about not drinking and that could put you in a negative light. No one wants a sister who they think will be super judgmental about their social life. From my experience, members are not supposed to talk about drinking during rush, so it's something that may make them uncomfortable if you bring it up. Best to get a feel for their activities by asking about what kinds of socials and other events they have.

Go to the Greek life site for your campus to learn more about recruitment and how and when to sign up. Make sure you contact your local Panhellenic group to line up recs for the sororities at your school. This is Texas and they are very important to recruitment.

Yes they are, but there isn't a school in Texas that has all of these chapters currently on campus. So check out your school's Greek life site and concentrate on getting recommendations for the chapters that are on your campus.

I remember plenty of sororities women who didn't drink. Not a problem. If your parents allow you to rush...go for it.

I've always found americanized arab girls to be hot.

Considering how strict the Muslim faith is, another org you might want to consider is Gamma Gamma Chi Islamic Sorority. http://gammagammachi.org/

I was thinking the same thing soror; however, not all Muslims are strict, especially among the Americanized. I would say it depends on how her family feels about it. Also the fact that she's even considering a traditional sorority says a lot; sounds like she already has an idea of greek life.

Hey Soror Rhoyaltempest!
I thought about that too but I figured I'd throw the info out there as another PSA option.

Hey

1 &2) I am a muslim too and am a proud member of a Panhellenic Sorority! No one is going to FORCE you to drink, not anywhere does it say you have to drink. There are many girls who don't want to drink.

3) Depending on the house. Some houses have a lot of girls that drink, but I don't think that you'd be considered less of a pledge at all. A pledge's quality isn't based on how much alcohol you can consume.

4) Usually when you start school, you'll have some sort of meeting or your RA will tell you.
