Today (Yesterday) we remember Marvin Gaye

For the oldheads here and those of you that may have been conceived let's talk about his music and legacy.

He would have been 70 if he was here today and was assasinated the day before hsi 45th B day by his father back in 1984

Some of my favorties are:

Trouble Man

I Want You

Inner City Blues

The local public television station had a fairly decent documentary on Marvin Gaye, his life and his death: https://www.cpbn.org/program/cptv-sa...rs-marvin-gaye .

If it airs in your area, it's very interesting, and there are some good interviews with some of his friends and contemporaries.

^^ Me, too, Jill! I don't know which hurt more, that he had passed or that his own father killed him.

What's Goin' On is by far, my favorite Gaye song, along with his duets with Tammi Terrell. I can't believe that he would have been 70!

My dad LOVES Marvin. I grew up listening to it as a kid. So sad. He was so talented.

I *think* there was a Behind The Music type docudrama on him and the relationship between him and his father was very volitile (sp?). It was amazing to hear the stories that went on. I vaguely remember hearing that he'd been shot and that he later died. I was like 4 or 5, I think.

Everything he sang became his. I especially love:

"I Heard It Through the Grapevine"
"Mercy, Mercy Me"
"Ain't No Mountain High Enough" w/Tammi

Thank goodness for records, CDs, and You Tube!

A street was named after him this week in DC. I believe this is the neighborhood where he grew up.

I remember when I told my friends the news they thought I was April fooling them.

My teenaged daughter really likes What's Going On. One of my favorites is Inner City Blues.
