I thought this might be a fun thread....
How has Alpha Xi Delta inspired you to realize your potential?

I'll start....and I'll try to keep it short
Alot of you know me more than just words on a screen, but Alpha Xi Delta has changed my life tremendously. The most recent experience I've had is my new job (which I LOOOOVE!) Without Alpha Xi Delta, I would have NEVER heard of this company. Without Alpha Xi Delta, I would have never had the experience I needed to work for this company. Without Alpha Xi Delta, I would probably still be doing IT work. While IT used to be my passion (it was my undergrad major), my experience in AXiD made me realize another field I was enthusiastic about, and gave me the experience, and the determination to pursue that field. I am where I am today in my professional life because of Alpha Xi Delta, and I will be forever grateful. It is my hope to make this a lifelong career....even if some people may think it's silly. I'm good at it, I enjoy it, and the pay is worth it. What more do I need?
What about you guys? I hope I'm not the only dork who thinks this might be fun...hahaha!

It all started the first night of rush. I have always been shy when I first meet people (but once you know me, watch out!).
The first night was the first time I had been faced with having to meet a group of people in a closed environment. I had to balance panic, enthusiasm, sincerity and the desire to just yammer on and on. During a very specific moment that I remember, a light bulb went off in my head - I figured out how to get through such a social tightrope. Over the following nights, my confidence improved, and I was sincerely comfortable in an unknown situation (outside of auditions) for the first time. I still consider that evening a turning point in how I present myself, learned how to listen, and ultimately declared it a successful experience.
As an adult in my 30s, I have been faced with several life changes. During this year's Founders Day ceremony, I learned/realized some interesting things about two of our founders, who both changed careers in their 30s. If 100+ years ago, these young women were brave enough to trust themselves and start new paths for themselves, how could I let myself back down out of fear? It seemed only natural to blaze a new trail in my life.
So at 18 and again at 30 something, I have been inspired by Alpha Xi Delta to realize my potential. I think that it's so easy to forget why our founders formed our organizations, because we think that the challenges they faced aren't recognizable in today's society. But I realized that I am more like our founders than I ever could have realized. And that is an example of living the ritual daily.

Before joining, I always thought that the stereotypes of the sororities where true. I didn't want to join and had no intention of joining or wanting to buy my friends. Then I got tired of being around guys all the time and wanted to find more friends that were girls.
So I went through recruitment and AXiD was the only chapter I wanted to be a part of. AXiD has really helped me since I first joined.
While active my NM class helped me out during a time in which my older sister and I where not getting along. They supported me and helped me deal with everything. Also with the help of my sister I was able to be more social and become a leader within my college council.
Now as an Alum, AXiD is one of the best things I could be a part of. I moved to a new city all by myself. Thanks to another Alum I was able to find my place and have friends in a place where I was all alone.
