Dress my PNM
I have a question regarding shoes. My daughter will be attending a Big 12 school in the fall. She has a navy blue dress paired with yellow shoes. I'm concerned about the color combination. Since this is Tri Delta's colors should we change the shoe color?
The dress. The picture looks black, but it's actually navy blue and the bow lays more flat and on top of itself.

What round is she planning on wearing this to? Preference? Worry about her wearing one particular groups colors IF she is invited back to their preference round.
I bet she changes her mind sometime within the next 8-9 months. I bet she changes it more than once.

Where is that dress from? I like the yellow and navy together but it really depends on your school...

Day three or possibly pref night. I thought red shoes might be better, but she really loves the yellow.
This dress is from a small boutique in the small town down the road from us.

All of this. If she does get invited back and still wants to wear this outfit, have her come up with a back up just in case.
As an aside though my chapter wears red dresses for pref and I wore a red dress to pref as a PNM. I knew it was A color for two of the organizations on campus but had no idea that one of the chapters I was preffing wore red. It turns out, they DID read too much into it and think I had done it on purpose. I suppose in that case it worked in my favor, but they had given me the benefit of the doubt. It could just as easily been perceived as presumptuous.

Also, she could easily change sizes - and fashion styles can change - in those 8-9 months. If it's a nice dress she can wear to other things, go for it. But don't commit to it as THE pref dress til much closer.
Also VVV what she said.

Sheesh ..... and I thought the questions directly from pnms had become excessive.
I think your daughter should wear what she wants to wear to her recruitment.

There are too many bows in this outfit for my taste. I'd go with the dress and a shoe that does not have an embellishment...then again, I only opened the thread because of the title.

The yellow shoes with the little flowers make me go ewww. But I'm not the type of woman who obsesses over shoes and handbags. Most of my shoes are black, and I don't even carry a handbag unless I'm going to a formal event and have to carry an evening bag. I'd pair navy shoes with the navy dress. But that's just me.

It is a lovely dress, and ehh, even if she doesn't end up wearing it during recruitment, should she join a sorority, there are formals and other events that she can wear it to.

I like the dress, but NOT with the yellow shoes - and not because it's Tri Delta's (or Theta Phi Alpha's or Alpha Xi Delta's) colors.
Personally, I think a print similar to these would be cute.

Thank you 33girl for the picture. That's a really cute shoe!
I think we'll keep our eye out for a different shoe without an embellishment. Thank you everyone for the feed back.

33 brings up a comment I'd like to share. Blue and yellow isn't exactly the most unusual color combination in the world. It's not like wearing the very vivid and specific red and green of A Chi O or pink and green of DZ.
But yeah, it's time to chillax on the the recruitment stuff. There are MILES to go before you sleep and it's way too early to be getting yourself all riled up over day 3/4 outfit choices. In the next couple months you can start thinking (NOT worrying) about recommendations, but for now, she needs to be thinking (NOT worrying) about graduating, prom, whether or not to be on the track team this spring, etc. Grades and fun should be her obsessions right now. Not what to wear for 3 hours in 7 months. It's just clothes, after all.
And those shoes, 33, are fantastic, and oh so practical.

If I might say, we aren't out shopping for recruitment clothing. She picked this dress for a dance she has coming up and said she could wear it for recruitment as well. I agreed, as I think it's a lovely dress, but I do have concerns about the shoes. We live in a rural area and our clothing and shoes options are limited, so when we are in the big city I certainly want to keep my eye out for a shoe that might be more appropriate. I do have a budget and finding the right shoe in the right price does take time.
I can assure you her priorities right now are on all her senior year activities. We shopped for another dress at the same time we found this dress for a banquet she has coming up and we still have a prom dress to find.
She has a list of everything she needs in the next six months and first an foremost on that list is her senior year needs. Next is college, which includes recruitment. We know what she needs and as we come across items that are appropriate and budget friendly, then we'll pick it up and mark it off.

the dress is darling and would make a great pref. dress for the schools i am familiar with-don't know your daughters intended school, so can't be specific.
the shoes would also work, but might be better for a different round. of course, as we often tell pnms, you should wear something that flatters you and that makes you feel confident and good about yourself. the shoes would not be a "fail" with the dress.
if your daughter knows anyone in a sorority(or that was in a sorority) at the college she will be attending, they would be the best resource for appropriate recruitment outfits.
33, absolutely adore those shoes!
