AI in fiction: an interesting question

How would you react if someone came out with a novel about a young woman pursuing AI?

I'm sure it would cause an uproar around GC.

I don't know that it would make much of an interesting story.

Well, she'd either be hanging out with her friends or dealing with other issues that young women have. AI would only be part of the story.

It might not be that bad of AI was only a small section of the book...but it also might make it seem like AI is an easy and accepted practice, while we know in most (if not all) NPC's it isn's, and it might make more people try to AI for the wrong reasons.

Define "small". Say, she finds her GLO early on (i.e. not much "sorority shopping") and starts hanging out with them as the alumnae association invites her to events. It would be about 20-25% of the plot.

Why is this woman pursuing AI? As a character I'd have the same questions I'd have about a real woman doing this, esp one with no prior connection.

It all depends what hte obok is like...but at the same time, I'd be afraid that it might make more people look into AI for the wrong reasosn.

What reader out there would care? What nongreek would care? Why would this even be interesting?

I know and understand the AI process and I think it's boring. I can't see how a non greek or a greek who doesn't understand the AI process would care or not be bored.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Sounds like a really boring book. No publisher is going to bite with that type of story line. Where's the hook?

Besides, there's already a book called AI. It's by Issac Asimov.

So you're questioning *MY REASON* for AIing then?

As for why this woman is AIing, well, that'll give away the ending.

I can't really say anymore about the storyline as the book has not officially been announced yet.

If you're going to write a story, leave AI out of it.

Some members are successful AIs because of their own individual circumstances. Taualumna, while you're familiar with your own AI experiences, writing about the process might give a false representation of it -- and that's something no one really wants.

Honestly, this is getting friggin' ridiculous. AI in FICTION! AI on LUNCHBOXES! AI on A BOX OF WHEATIES!

Enough already!

It's a dumb idea for a book.

I'm sorry, OTW, but the book is done. The only thing left is an official announcement.

Darn it OTW... I was going to title my first book, "Sorority Shopping!"

You've crushed my dream... I'm going to go and cry myself to sleep now.

So why ask for opinions on it after it's been written? Especially in the midst of all the AI controversy.
