Specific FB Question

So I have specific FB Question
Before I found out about greekchat and all the rush ettiqute, I went on facebook and found a lot of the sorority pages and 'like"d them. I did this for the large majority of the sororities.
Was this a mistake? Will this make me look bad or will they even notice?
Should I un'like' the pages or will this just make it worse?
I wanna have a good rush but im not sure if i just made it a lot harder on myself. I wanna walk in with the best chances!

Thanks for any help you gals can give me!

If you're talking about the inter/national Facebook pages, it's not going to hurt you at all, and I think will teach you a lot about Greek life during and after college. Here at GC we're all about going in prepared! I wouldn't think Liking a specific chapter page would be a problem, but I'm guessing that's not what you meant anyway. I couldn't access any I tried to look at. If you were able to Like a chapter page, just make sure you don't comment on anything that could incriminate you or anyone else.

I read a thread here recently from an advisor's point of view and she explained the RFM process in depth, and also made excellent recommendations about Facebook use.

I'd do just what she said - make your page private but your photo visible. Make sure your photo is flattering (close up, just a head shot). But if your page is private, they won't see who you Liked anyway. (right?)

And don't forget, every NPC sorority has a very good website that will provide you with a LOT of information. Most, but not all, are www.entiresororitynamespelledout.org. (obviously this isn't a real hyperlink) Otherwise, just google it.

Good luck!

Thank you! And i actually did mean the chapter pages. I just wanted to get framiliar with the girls in each group and what type of activities they did. I did do a lot of privacy edits on my facebook. No one can see my likes at all. And i have it on private so only my photo, name and school show.

I believe the people who also liked the page can see that you liked it.

You have two choices, and you need to do one of them ASAP.

1. Unlike the pages you have liked and hope to heaven no one noticed you on there.

2. Like ALL of the sorority pages so it just looks like you went through and said "a sorority at State University!! Whoo hoo!! I like this!!" Like the NPHC groups and professional sororities while you're at it. If you chose only CERTAIN ones to like, it will look REALLY REALLY bad. Rushees do this on GC sometimes - they come on either asking for a rec or saying "I really think I would be a great XYZ at Booboo State!" but they only do it for certain groups, and it's obvious that they're targeting the more popular ones.

However, if you did "like" a page, that fact can show up in your friends' newsfeed. Are any of your FB friends already in chapters at your school? What about FB friends who may blab to current sorority women?

My personal opinion would be to go back and "unlike" everything.

I agree that you should unlike all of them.
Even if they were international pages, if I saw that a non-legacy pnm, or one without other strong Pi Phi connections "liked" us, I'd be a little weirded out.
That said, it's likely that no one has noticed yet.

Also, fan pages are all open content, so you can see everything on them without likeing them. A lot of why my chapter has one is so parents, pnms, and other members of the Greek community can see them. (It's not uncommon for parents and other Greeks to like our page though...)

I think I have to disagree that you should dislike them, or even stress too much about it. I would like them all though, just to be on the safe side.

As an active, I think it is great when PNMs "like" our page. I only think that it means you are trying to learn as much about every sorority that you can. I also don't take the time to look and see is Suzie PNM who has liked our page, has also liked the other sorority's pages. I would though think it is weird if I noticed that a specific PNM had liked our page, and then if I went back a week later and saw that they had "unliked" it. That would rub me the wrong way.

Yes, agree to liking them all. That's probably the best solution. That just says you're interested in all of the groups you're about to meet.

Yes I agree about unliking them. I just helped advise a recruitment. There were some PNMs who liked a sorority during recruitment or posted "I hope I am a XYZ!" on their wall!!! Do not do this you will get released from the other chapters who do not want to waste an invite on you if you have already decided.

I know that a lot of sororities put those pages up so pnms can come around and look at their videos and pictures, etc. So I don't think you need to unlike them. At some schools they might stalk you to see what else you like, but at some they may not-it really just depends on the vibe you're getting. I'd like them all just to appear unbiased. But at my school, I don't think it means too much if there's just one or two. Just don't post all over their page like a maniac.

Thank you everyone for the advice.
I have not and will not comment or post on anything. There are ten sororities and i believe ive liked 7 of them so i can go thru and like the rest easily.
But im confused on to which i should do, should i like or unlike?
thats the question!

Just like the other three, and don't post on the walls. That shows interest in the sororities, and that's a good thing! You just want to like them all on the off chance someone checks and thinks you didn't like XYZ for a reason.
