Baby from Car: Child Dies... Are you serious? What is this world coming to?
Tampa, Florida (10Connects.com)- Florida law enforcement officials say a man kidnapped his ex-girlfriend's baby son and threw the boy from his car as he drove along Interstate 275 early Tuesday morning.
The man was caught not far from the scene. The baby did not survive.
Not long after 9 a.m., police say someone spotted Richard McTear, Jr. on or around Arlington Avenue near Tampa Heights. Officers say McTear was taken into custody without incident.
As officers led McTear into a sheriff's office holding area, he shot profanities at journalists.
A reporter asked "How can you throw a baby out the window?" He replied: "It's a dirty game." He paused, then repeated himself: "It's dirty game."
McTear was already wanted for a past kidnapping charge before this morning's incident, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
McTear and his ex-girlfriend were involved in a domestic violence altercation in the nearby Marbella Apartments at around 3:15 Tuesday morning, deputies said.
The woman told deputies that during that altercation, McTear took her infant son and threw him down onto the concrete. After that, McTear took the boy - three-month old Emanuel Wesley Murray - and drove off in his car.
Around an hour later, a photojournalist on his way to work spotted the baby's body along the side of Interstate 275.
Jason Bird, a photojournalist for Fox 13, said he was heading into work an hour earlier than usual when he noticed what he thought was just trash or debris in the road's shoulder.
But the image of a face stuck in his mind, he said.
Hoping it was just a baby doll, he looped around on the interstate and called his office. When he returned to the scene, he could tell it was the body of a baby.
Initially, Bird thought the baby was a girl, but deputies say they've confirmed the body to be three-month old Emanuel Wesley Murray.
