ANN ARBOR – Sixty or so members of U-M’s Phi Gamma Delta will start out before dawn Friday, running with a football from their frat house to the Big House and then on to Findlay, Ohio, where they will rendezvous with their brothers from Ohio State.
Yes, Ohio State.
The two groups of Fijis might be the Hatfields and McCoys when it comes to The Game, but on this day they are doing something rare for students from OSU and U-M: They are cooperating, running the game ball 186 miles from Ann Arbor to Columbus to raise money to fight cancer.
The students will work in two-hour shifts, traveling in a caravan with a large banner so people can understand that what they are seeing is not some silly college stunt, but a serious college stunt.
At Findlay, the OSU students will take over. Then, at 8 a.m. Saturday, members of both chapters will meet 24 miles outside of the Horseshoe, and they will run together the rest of the way. The entire trek will take more than 30 hours.
