UMich and OSU Fijis
Man bites dog: U-M and OSU frats join forces
November 15, 2006 Email this Print this By BILL McGRAW FREE PRESS COLUMNIST ANN ARBOR – Sixty or so members of U-M’s Phi Gamma Delta will start out before dawn Friday, running with a football from their frat house to the Big House and then on to Findlay, Ohio, where they will rendezvous with their brothers from Ohio State. Yes, Ohio State. The two groups of Fijis might be the Hatfields and McCoys when it comes to The Game, but on this day they are doing something rare for students from OSU and U-M: They are cooperating, running the game ball 186 miles from Ann Arbor to Columbus to raise money to fight cancer. The students will work in two-hour shifts, traveling in a caravan with a large banner so people can understand that what they are seeing is not some silly college stunt, but a serious college stunt. At Findlay, the OSU students will take over. Then, at 8 a.m. Saturday, members of both chapters will meet 24 miles outside of the Horseshoe, and they will run together the rest of the way. The entire trek will take more than 30 hours. I was in Columbus for the game on Saturday and one of my friends (who lives on Greek Row at OSU just down the street from the Fiji house) hosted a kegs and eggs party before the game. On our way over, I saw the Fiji brothers outside tailgating--half were wearing Michigan shirts and the other half were in OSU shirts. I was wondering about that--I guess this is my answer!

This is a great story! I was at the Skull Session before The Game, and the two chapters presented the money they had raised there. It was so cool to see a Greek organization representing both Michigan and OSU working together!

This is great! The KU and Kansas State FIJI's do something similar. The chapters have been working together for 33 years to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The run is in memory of Rod Morgan, a K-State veterinary medicine student, who died when he was 21. You can read more here:
