Marietta Chapter

After 136 years the Marietta Chapter has been closed by the college for hazing, violating risk management policies and a fight which broke out at a party. We regain Syracuse, Johns Hopkins and UNC-Wilmington and lose Marietta, two steps forward one step back. If any undergraduates are reading this post, please mention this at your chapter meeting. DU doesn't need to lose your chapter.

I agree Glenn, we need to preserve the core group of chapters that we have. It does seem that Brother Maguire has expansion as a top priority with the list of colonies, interest groups and the expansion that they have on the horizon.

Losing Marietta is a big loss for us with all of the history that has come out of that chapter, 5 generations of the Dawes family have gone through Delta Upsilon at Marietta with the first being Charles Dawes, a former Vice President of the United States and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. Also from the Chapter has come a former Governor of the state of Ohio and a former CEO of Proctor & Gamble.

We all need to help where we can as undergrads and alumni to help the Fraternity grow. Give as much time as we can in any capacity. Even if it is just serving as a mentor to an undergraduate Brother. Now more than ever, they need our help and we should all be lining up to give however we can.

Dikaia,

Michael

I thought DU was famous and proud of being a non-hazing fraternity.

Nonhazing

DU has a pretty good record about hazing but we aren't perfect.

We have one of the best records in the Fraternal world when it comes to hazing and risk management which is why our brothers pay significantly less then most other Fraternities in insurance.

When you have over 3000 undergrads a year there will unfortunately be a couple that spoil it for the rest.

From the article I found it sounds like the brothers want to fight the University on the charges.
