SC Nominations

Soo.... I'm confused about the SC nominations... are they changing the names of the positions as well this year ? is that part of the changes that are being voted on at convention ? Also are the SC members EVER going to change ? I mean they are doing a good job, do people just not volunteer for SC or are these same people just nominated over and over again ? seems like no one even has any competition ?

I would have to read our constitution to be 100% sure on this; however, I think you can only run for a certain position twice...like the President of the US, you can only be president for two terms, and than you have to move on. What happens in the sorority world is that those same people sometimes run for other sc positions.

Also I've heard that not many of our sisters are up for the challenge of being a sc member...its all volunteer work and alot of time with conference calls, constant emails, and constant travelling. It might be tough to balance it all when you have other things in your life as well.

Also, many of our sisters feel like the could do more working on the local level rather than the Inter-national.

Maybe when I retire at 40 I'll take a stab at it.

Shouldn't Sandy Grossman be done then ? I think she's great, but I think she's been GA for like 4 years now hasn't she ?

Sandy Grossman was elected GA when I was first initiated back in 2003/2004. I'm not sure how long you can run for, that's why I would have to check out the constitution to be sure. I think its a maximum of six years...i think.

HI All,

I just checked the constitution and this is what it says "No individual may hold the same elected position for longer than six (6) years or three (3) consecutive terms" so Sandy is still eligible. Since I initiated in 2001 there have been some significant changes to the Supreme Council. Remember we need to nominate someone if we think they would be good for it. They need the nomination though.

As for the changes, from what I have been told, one of the very first things that is going to happen is a plenary session where it will be voted on whether to accept the changes recommended by the Organizational Task Force. If the changes are recognized then we will vote for the new Supreme Council with General Director members. If it doesn't pass then we will continue on with the elections for the candidates the old way.

Past Grand Archon Chris Senseny sent out something to the Las Vegas Alum Club Members (we're being installed at Convention) about the process. I'm copying and pasting it here since it explains things rather well:

Cindy correctly pointed out that the two lists contain the same people. Sorry - should have explained more.

The Organizational Structure Task Force has proposed a new form for SC. There would be a Grand Archon, GVA, GVA-Finance, and four directors. They would not be "in charge" of any particular area (as in Director of Collegians). Instead, the idea is that they can concentrate on BIG issues (investments, extension, policy) instead of the day to day details. Those daily details will be handled either by the Headquarters staff or by volunteers on task forces and standing committees.

The country has been divided into nine regions. Regions are now called communities and are headed by a "community archon (CA)." The Las Vegas Alum Chapter, for example, is located in community 9, and Joanne Barrick is our CA. You met her at the alum reunion, if you were there. Jen Lenhart-Rogish (also at the reunion - she was the one celebrating her anniversary with her hubby at the luncheon) is also a CA for Region 8.

Each CA has her own advisory board. She can choose anyone she thinks she needs to support her. I happen to be one of two alumnae mentors on Jen's board in region 8, supporting her and the other alum mentor with ideas to make alum chapters in that region stronger.

So the change in essence is that SC moves on to the BIG things. Communities are led by their CAs, supported by an advisory board and chapter key advisors. Day to day things previously handled by SC will be moved to either Headquarters or to committees.

So why are there two lists for SC? If the new format does not pass at Convention, then the ballot of officers on the left (old structure) will be voted on. If the new format does pass, then the ballot on the right (new structure) will be voted on.

The nominating committee clearly thought that several of these women were qualified to run for office on either board, which is why you see many of their names on both lists. Jen Lenhart is one of the alumnae who have been nominated, for example.

I hope this explains things to you. I also noted that if you click on the candidate's name, there is information for each one. Thanks for asking! I know I've been looking at this too long and forget that this is all new to many of you!

Hope this explain things better.

Carolyn
