Dance Marathon

My Chapter really wants to hold A Dance Marathon in the Spring. I know the Philanthropy chair is meeting with someone who has a lot of experience with this but I want to get opinions of people from GC who have this kind of philanthropy as to how much money they were able to raise and how participants responded to it.

Its ok :P

Here's the most recent/active thread: http://greekchat.com/gcforums/showthread.php?t=89172

And to answer your question, it takes a few years to get DM started up well.

The way my campus does it is the following: you sign up and pay a $20 fee (registration started recently and ours is going to be held in the end of January 2009), then you either raise or pay out of pocket about $120 more in order to be a dancer (the money is due about a week or more before DM).

Committee members and Morale Captains (the people who dance each hour on stage and are in charge of the different groups) pay about $500 I think- but I'm not completely sure. Some chapters hold chapter-wide fundraisers to offset the costs of their dancers. And of course there's fundraising held throughout the year before.

My chapter has won DM for 2 years in a row now, and my school in total raised about $114,000+ this past March.

Hope that helps.

Thanks! I know that a lot of work goes into starting up a DM. I think we're going to try to get two fraternities to help us put it on because their philanthropy is CMN as well. Plus we don't want it to just be a Greek Thing we want to get the whole school and possibly community involved so we could raise more money for CMN!
