Way to go, Delt Alum! Not so much here, but on the other message board I've been on tonight, I have never heard so much whining in my life!
It's a GAME, people!!

Re: Grrr...
You got that right! Mr. 1228 and I spent most of the game saying "WTF?"
Shaking my head...

Might as well quickly go on record.
As many of you know, I televised (directed) football games for many years.
On the disputed TD, you have to NOT watch the very end of the play. It appeared to me that the ball did BARELY break the outside plane of the goal line, and was then pulled back before the first hit. Of course, to be able to tell exactly, you would have to know if that camera was precisely on the goal line. Bottom line is that the replay did not prove anything conclusively either way, so the call on the field had to stand.
Besides, if that TD hadn't counted, Pittsburgh would only have won 14-10 instead of 21-10.
It's over. It's in the books.
Pittsburgh is World Champion. Period.
And downtown Detroit looked great on TV tonight -- way to go Motown!

Detroit did look good, DeltAlum, and it seems like they put on a good party.
Bottom line is that the Seahawks didn't get the job done. The Steelers made many mistakes and played pretty much what I thought was one of their worst games of the year (in terms of ridiculous mistakes). But the Seahawks made many mistakes themselves.
The rules are the rules, and the calls were in line with the rules. As DeltAlum said, in order to reverse the call on the field, there has to be conclusive evidence on the replay. And there wasn't. Plus that was one play out of hundreds in the games. The Seahawks still lost by 11 points

Congrats to the Steelers. With Foote and Bettis being hometown boys, it was impossible not to root for them.
Thanks for the positive Detroit comments. The city has come a long way over the last decade and hopefully will find a way to grow and prosper in spite of the bleak outlook with the auto companies right now. I hope people had a great time!
And, I hate the Seahawks for getting that field goal with 22 seconds left in the first quarter. They stole $40 from me on my 0,0 square

I think the whole game was pretty lousy really. There was nothing that really stood out from either team. Yeah, I hate the fact Seattle lost but they couldn't catch today. Pittsburg won but I don't think either team outplayed each other, Pittsburg was just luckier

<sigh!>
Well, PM/email me with where you want it sent.
(I wouldn't want it to sit outside your apt.)
And I still am proud of our Hawks!

1 - the ball probably broke the goal line - if it didn't, then obviously there wasn't enough evidence to overturn the call on the field
2 - every holding call on SEA was confirmed on replay
3 - PIT played as bad as possible (see: Roethlisktjeafdbakder's second INT) and still won
4 - read my advice earlier - giving the points was hot as shit

Come on - one questionable call, and even that was a good one.
Pittsburgh wasn't "luckier," Seattle just couldn't take advantage of the Steelers' mistakes. Pittsburgh won the game, fair and square - let's not be sore losers.

Actually, the checks will be written out to Matt Hasselback. Payment in full for all those incomplete passes
And there's an "h" at the end. It's the Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania; I think you may be thinking of Tommy Earp's Pittsburg, Kansas which does not, to my knowledge, have an NFL team
And I agree with the people who say that Detroit looked really good
Dani: I read about Pitt students rioting in Oakland. WTF??? Back in my days, everyone would have been too apathetic to go through the trouble of overturning cars and starting fires. Kids today

KunjaPrincess, sorry if it seems we're picking on you, but most sports fans get very irritated when someone starts talking smack but has no idea what they're really talking about, doesn't understand the rules of the game, and can't even be bothered to spell the name of the city correctly (it's really not that hard to do the last one).
eta: I thought Aaron Neville was a terrible choice to sing the national anthem Aretha was fine, but Aaron Neville's style of voice is NOT suited to this sort of song.
