I know you must feel slightly dissapointed but... Pref is the most amazing night !! If you are going to feel comfortable in Alpha Phi you will know by the end of the party.. so definitely go and check it out !!! If you don't get that homey feeling there... then just list others first even if you didn't attend their pref... you should be eligible for snap bid/cob if any chapters don't reach quota. Good luck and let us know what you decide !!

I am a religious person and I believe that God works in mysterious ways. He knows what's best for us even when we think or want something else. I suggest go to Alpha Phi tonight and give them a fair shot. After that, go with your feelings! You maybe surprised and love them more than all the others!
I am sending you a pm but I hear your box is full!

Please give Alpha Phi a shot - it is a great group. I would even go so far to say if they offer you a bid, pledge, and give it a shot. Many people are not thrilled beyond belief on bid day, but most end up loving the GLO they pledge. Good luck hon - I hope it all works out for you!

Please Go!
Hey Sweetie,
I have been following your thread all summer. You've been one of my favorite PNM's! Have you talked to your recruitment counselor ? She would probably be able to offer you some good advice.
I reread your thread and it seems that Alpha Phi was your favorite group the very first night. I think first impressions are pretty important because they're usually based on a gut instinct. I would definitely go to Pref tonight. If you just don't feel a connection then don't sign a bid card. This way you could still be eligible for a snap bid or C.O.B later on. I have a feeling that things are going to work out for you. Good luck and we're all pulling for you!

amandamarie: *hugs* I know you are disappointed, hon, but as many GC'ers have said, Alpha Phi is a terrific group! Your first impression of them was great, so go to their pref with that impression. Keep in mind too, some houses and girls just are not great rushers. They are just as nervous (if not more!) than you are. They want to make a good impression on a terrific rushee like you, and sometimes that can be intimidating! Pref gives you a good feel of the sisterhood of the house - it all comes down to this night. Even though you cut them, they invited you back! They want you there. Most sororities do not invite girls to pref that they cannot see as their sister. I hope that after tonight, you can see Alpha Phi as yours.
Good luck! And remember, there is always COB!

Alright, here's some stuff to think about :
The first night you mentioned that Alpha Phi did not seem fake - a great trait! And you were "definitely looking forward" to returning. As someone else said, first impressions are usually pretty on.
So you met two girls you wouldn't be friends with in the outside world. I had plenty of those in my chapter, but I had many more who were dear and wonderful friends. AND, even those girls I wouldn't have been friends with outside of Chi Omega were there for me when I needed them! That is what sisterhood is about!
Here's another thing, you mentioned you felt like they were more interested in goofing off with each other, well, they were probably poor rushers, many chapters have that. But it also sort of says to me that they really like hanging out together. (I know, as a former Rush chair I should not be condoning that kind of rush behavior, but it's what came to my mind!!! )
Go to Alpha Phi's pref tonight with the same open heart you had when you first walked through their doors. You will know if you belong there. I wish you the best of luck and know it will work out in the end.

Hey, Amandamarie
I agree with what everyone else is saying-- please give Alpha Phi a try! When I went through recruitment I was rushed by some girls who I thought were absolutely miserable... however, after I pledged and got to know them outside of the high pressure craziness of recruitment, they became some of my best friends. Recruitment week is like an alternate universe... things are always a lot different (and usually a lot better!) when the pressure of rushing, quota and all of that other stuff is gone. Even though it may not seem this way now, you're pretty lucky to know about the cuts now, rather than opening up your bid card and seeing a group that you put third or fourth... this way, you can see if you can find your home at Alpha Phi, rather than getting swept up in the bid day festivities and having to make a hasty decision. At pref tonight, remember to look at the other pnms at the party-- see if you've gotten to know any of them throughout the week and if you would like to call them your sisters, too (this helped me a lot during recruitment!!).
When I was little and studying for my fist test my mom told me, "If you don't know the answer go with your gut... it's usually right." I think that this advice may apply to picking sororities as well...
I'm sure that everything will work out well for you...
Sorry this is so long... man, can I write a lot when I'm trying to avoid doing actual work at my job!!

Ok, so I went out for lunch, and went shopping and got a lot of cute new underwear to cheer me up! I've been thinking about it, and you guys are right. At first I was pretty upset, not at the fact that A Phi invited me, but that the others didn't. The first night, the A Phis were my favorites because they seemed like people I would be able to hang out with. So the second night didn't go so well. I figure if there's only 2 girls out of 50-60 that I don't love, that's pretty good odds. Also, no one says I have to best friends with all of them. I'm going to go to pref tonight (no way I'm missing out on wearing my dress!), and I'm definitely going to try to find out more about the girls and the house. I also feel like I must have made an impression the first two days if they invited me back after I cut them. I'm feeling like, unless tonight is just awful, if they bid me, I will accept. I know that at least the girls from the first round clicked with me. Also, I do like their philanthropy, as my mom has had heart attacks in the past. I'm looking forward to tonight, and hope that tomorrow is much less surprising!

I'm glad you're looking at the bright side. Like I said in another thread, some girls are great rushers and some are not so great, but that doesn't necessarily reflect on what kind of sisters they are. If you feel a connection to this group at Pref, give them a try -- you will probably end up fitting in. I know that you were uncomfortable with some of these girls, but was that "uncomfortable-ness" due to the fact that you didn't like their personalities, or simply that they were unable to come up with lots of stuff to talk about or put you at ease in an awkward situation? If it's the second, it might just be that they're shy and just as nervous as you were, if not more.
I'm just happy that you're giving them a try. Let us know how things go.

Yay! I'm so excited that you will be preffing Alpha Phi! They are an amazing organization and I know you will love Pref! It's the most special night - after tonight you will know if it is right for you! I can't wait to hear all about it!
