You DID in fact get your hair done by them. If they were racist, they wouldn't have bothered.

Unhappy

I hate to say it but I find only one really racist person on this thread! DA!

I feel everyone has bent over Backwards to work with this individual who keeps bringing it up and always has a rebutal for everything!

Am I not suppose to like someone who is of a different color, gender, religion, or sexual preference, is that what you would like us to beleive!

I feel that these people are my freinds, Brothers/Sisters, no matter what!

If you do not like it, then again, I reiterate, go pound some sand!

You have the privledge, not the right to be on this site! Especially when you down grade people who are not what you what them to be!

You quote history, well bullS*&t then learn the real history, not from some professed guru of Blackism!

There have been over the years quite a lot ofwhite people who helped Blacks and other Races.

I for one get tired of your ragings about the under Privlidged of your Race! Get a life!!!!

I am damn sure you will flame me for this thought!

But you tell me I a cannot be freinds with an Asian, Homosexual, Black or anyother person on this site and others becaus of you!?

You forget yourself and the History you may have been brought up with!

Learn The History of your life, not a small microcosim that one person writes! Just because it is in Print Does not make it the Bible of life!

Perhaps you would care to find out what a FORUM actually is.If everyone agreed then there probably wouldnt be a need for a forum would it?Because I disagree with some, then I'm racist???Sounds like you have some issues.

"Am I not suppose to like someone who is of a different color, gender, religion, or sexual preference, is that what you would like us to beleive!"

Same line every time. And it really doesn't fit in every time you say it.

"I feel that these people are my freinds, Brothers/Sisters, no matter what!

If you do not like it, then again, I reiterate, go pound some sand!"

The copy and paste/quote function is still available. Where does this fit in with the original argument? I DO NOT care who is your friend via net or real life. Get back on track with the initial argument.

"You have the privledge, not the right to be on this site! Especially when you down grade people who are not what you what them to be!"

I don't have a problem engaging in dialogue with people. YOU do. You have the option of not clicking YOUR mouse on this forum.

"You quote history, well bullS*&t then learn the real history, not from some professed guru of Blackism!"

And just what is real history hun???

"There have been over the years quite a lot ofwhite people who helped Blacks and other Races."

Sure I agree. Not to mention the countless blacks who have also helped whites. Again, where does this fit into the argument? You seem to be straying from the argument when you run of points to make and in turn seem to justify it by saying how many friends of other races you have.

I for one get tired of your ragings about the under Privlidged of your Race! Get a life!!!!

May I suggest again that you dont click on this forum? Maybe you are "tired" because I'm actually right???

I am damn sure you will flame me for this thought!

But you tell me I a cannot be freinds with an Asian, Homosexual, Black or anyother person on this site and others becaus of you!?

Did I ever say you couldn't? Again, the quote function works wonders!

You forget yourself and the History you may have been brought up with!

Learn The History of your life, not a small microcosim that one person writes! Just because it is in Print Does not make it the Bible of life!

And just what is the history of my life? Does that statement even make sense?I suggest you try holistic healing combined with anger management.

lol . They are healing centers which use herbs and other healing properties to cure people of ailments. It also works for people who are suffering mentally. Most of the people that leave are usually more positive mentally and physically cured of diseases or ailments.

I think this ONE time she is trying to keep it real. The internet overflows with internet sites that are virulently racist. You never see that here, and it's a question of is it because people here don't think like that, or is it because they are putting on a front and not expressing their true feelings?

Valid question.

Hey, Dionysus where did your post go? I was going to respond to it?

I think some of us are confusing prejudice and preference to be the same thing.

Here are the definitions of the two (courtesy of The American Heritage Dictionary):

prejudice: an adverse judgement or opinion formed beforehand without knowledge of the facts.

preference: the excercise of choice.

So how can one really discern the difference between someone being prejudice or someone having a PREFERENCE?

For example, I will only let another African American beautician relax and style my hair because I feel that he/she will understand my needs, frustrations, and questions that I have because they have been through the same thing. I have never let a non-african american style it nor will I ever.

Is this prejudice or preference?

I deleted it, I think it was a little too hot for GC! I didn't want to offend anyone.

But, LI84 basically summed up what I said.

That is preference by far. I can't even explain it being a white person but I do know that it is far easier for an Arican Amercian to have their styled by another African American. There is different hair structure and haiir needs and hair wants. It is just easier to relate to or with.

Don't tell me my definition of racism depends on my race!! That is racist! Racism can, and often does, come in the form an istutution with power, but that is only one form of it. There are a lot more othere things that deal with power. Like if I"m white and I go into a store but can't get service because the black guy there doesn't like crackers. That is racism. He has the power not to sell me anything, its not instutionalised power, but is power none the less.

A quick question, how would you know if that happened to him or not? Instead of just saying no, maybe it has happened, I know I have had a few instances like that happen to me, yet, I didn't effect the way I think or the person I am. I have many African American friends and I plan to keep it that way. It's the little shit that people let get to them that hurts.

Optimist and Neicy81, are we going to argue about the definition of the word racism again?

I think we established that different people have different meanings of the word. You are not going to change their mind, nor are they going to change yours.

Arguing over whether or not a specific incident is racism is pointless when you can't even agree on a definition.
