But that's a separate convo.

But seriously, he sounds HORRIBLE live when he "sings." Rappers need to stick to rapping. Period.
AHHHHHH, I HATE THAT SONG!

Lol, did anyone hear the audio clip of Obama calling Kanye a jackass? Hilarious.

Often a father will dislike a boy because he is protective of his daughter and a mother will straighten him out; Taylor was pulling a Disney with a single father with a willful daughter who wasn't really willful because she was just waiting for a guy to get on one knee, propose, and to get a white dress.
Well really if you listen to the lyrics, Taylor's dad DOES approve of her gettin' that white dress, apparently ("And said, marry me Juliet, You'll never have to be alone, I love you and that's all I really know, I talked to your dad, go pick out a white dress, It's a love story baby just say yes"). See, it's all better now.

That's pretty bad, but I can honestly see Kanye saying something like that.

Hijack

I actually know somebody who claimed to love the Wu Tang Clan, yet had no idea what CREAM stood for.

But my original point still stands. No one consulted HER, he went and talked to her dad and now he's telling her to buy a white dress. Why is Juliet not included in the decisions of her own life, let alone clothing? I just find it antiquated that in 2009 the idea of women waiting to be asked (after their father's give permission) is supposed to be cheesy feel good music. I can just imagine the response of my step-father if some guy asked for permission to ask for my hand in marriage. It'd be along the lines of "if you think asking me is part of the process, you obviously don't know my daughter well enough to marry her."

Also the amount of women who look good in a white dress is low. I'd never wear a white dress, and if people think I'm the Whore of Babylon for wearing ivory so be it. In many cultures the "purity" of a woman was tied to her head covering, and not the dress color.

Also, the lack of knowledge about Shakespeare kills me. Juliet was forbidden to be with Romeo and was then promised to Count Paris, and then you know, they commit suicide. I can only pray the next pop love song is about Sylvia Plath or Virginia Woolf and how they got together with a handsome poet and lived happily ever after.

Agreed - it's kind of funny to claim that either is irrelevant, and to me shows a pretty stunning lack of knowledge about pop culture. I say that as someone who's not really a fan of either performer.

Also, the VMAs are still being held? News to me...

It's just repetitive. But the songs are cute and catchy.

I love Kanye. I feel bad for Taylor. But Kanye makes a large portion of my late musical world go round and I believe that his work will span more time overall as it is musically creative and very "out there".

He shouldn't have interrupted, but it's not like he hasn't done it before. People were cheering when he did it (if you listen) and then when Taylor made that face (they should have let her finish-MTV did NOT help!) it all went down hill from there. His behavior deserves no excuse, but it's not like he's never done it before-it's Kanye being Kanye.

He just happpened to do it to a young teenage girl who looks like a Christmas Angel and makes really good sad faces and I don't think people will every get over that soon, not even me to some extent. I think if it had been almost anyone else, we wouldn't be talking about it THIS much, especially not in this way.
Well said.

For the record, it is particularly odd to me how people seem to be more outraged by this whole ordeal than they were about how Joe Wilson conducted himself the other night. Wonder why HIS butt wasn't kicked out like Kanye?

Awesomely, Taylor Swift's last album outsold any of Kanye's by, oh, over a million copies. Saying she's "less relevant" is kind of moronic.

Good for President Obama. He's absolutely right:
""I thought that was really inappropriate," Obama says. "What are you butting in (for)? ... The young lady seems like a perfectly nice person. She's getting her award. What's he doing up there?"

A questioner chimes in, "Why would he do it?"

"He's a jackass," Obama replies, which is met with laughter from several people."

HA HA HA HA
