Oh yes... I forgot about raw oysters. Not exactly kosher, but who cares!

I don't like them raw, but I love them smoked.

That's why you get the jar of Frank's. It's waaaay more exotic.

Mmmm... all this talk of sauerkraut makes me want to go to the Amanas.

A couple of days ago I went to Outback and there was a guy sitting right next to me at the bar eating his steak damn near raw. It was cooked rare...very rare. His plate was totally red. That's just worms waiting to happen. Gross.

Well done for me.

As for raw beef - if you get a chance (and you're not a vegetarian), you should try beef carpaccio. It's good stuff.

If you order any type of expensive cut of meat and cook it to well done you should be slapped. Might as well eat boot leather. 150 degree center is medium.....which is more than the recommended safe temp. for beef/lamb/veal, etc.

Pigeon isn't bad...tastes a lot like Eurasian Dove. Practically the same thing.

^^^ When I was in middle school, our French teacher took us to a restaurant where they asked us how we wanted our burgers done. We didn't know any better and we all ordered well-done.

Never again.

(I stopped eating beef anyway, so it's a moot point)

Wow. I've never heard of that. I'm willing to try just about anything though as long as it doesn't have anything to do with feces, saliva or urine. Anything that's a part of the digestive system I won't even think about it. Anything else though, I'll try.

I used to order well-done all the time when I was younger as well, and only in the past few years (probably since college) have I changed. TexasWSP is right - it makes a huge difference in taste to have the meat cooked less, especially when the beef is of good quality.

A lot of the meat we eat is safe, but if it's cooked rare, then the risk of you getting ascariasis is more likely than not. I've seen too many things associated with that to eat my meat that way. Medium, to medium well is o.k.

Rare? I wouldn't.

I like my steak medium rare. Hot/warm reddish to pinkish (a bit on the bright side of pinkish though) center.

This thread makes me hungry.
