I would stay away from Vanilla, it's a common allergy. There was a girl in a GLO here who was HIGHLY allergic to anything vanilla as in if she got within 50 ft of vanilla body splash, she would have a huge allergy attack.

You can use your scented soaps and BBW lotions... Honestly, you can wear your perfume! They're not going to tell you "no perfume," but as sorority women we're told not to wear it during recruitment just in case we get an asthmatic PNM in our house or someone with a sensitive nose. So in that spirit, we advise the PNMs to follow suit, as well, out of courtesy to others.

I stand corrected! Thank you. When I was a PNM at UCF (way too many years ago), we weren't given any such instruction. I'm glad to see common sense prevailing -- in any crowded situation like this, I think it is smart to lay off the scent! Since my sorority experience, I have done the same on job interviews and at networking events.

I've interviewed job candidates and found their fragrances distracting, and it somewhat influenced my opinion of them. The same goes for recruitment. You don't want to be "The one who smelled like a Krispy Kreme donut." You probably won't get cut because you wore the same scent as the girl who stole someone's boyfriend, but it might make you memorable to her. And not for a good reason.
And I don't think we ever said "I want her as a sister because she smelled great!"

I remember reading something about scent being the strongest of the 5 senses tied to memory. You're more likely to remember the smell of something rather then the touch, taste, sound, or sight of it. (Not that you should go around touching or tasting the PNMs anyway).

Don't wear extreme or heavy makeup. I remember meeting this one girl my sophomore year, and I don't remember anything about her except that I kept thinking that if I poked her in the face, it would leave a dent in her makeup. Maybe she was a great girl and could have been a wonderful sister, but I just couldn't concentrate on getting to know her because I was entranced by her heavy makeup.
No pants/skirts so low I can see your underwear when you're sitting. Or standing for that matter.
Also, make sure that if you're wearing heels you've practiced moving around in them - going upstairs, walking on carpet, wood, tile, etc.

Oh gracious - speaking of heels...
I got so fatigued and dehydrated one day during rush that I fell down the stairs outside of one house! Wait, have I told this story on here before?? Oh well. Anyway, I was wearing sandal heels, so when I fell, there was nothing protecting my feet. So, I scraped one foot really bad and started bleeding. And it HURT. My Rho Chi was like, "Are you ok?" And, I said I would be ok...so she took off with the group while I was sitting on the stoop using a tissue to apply pressure.
They were just going next door and they had to wait to go in (as the sorority women prepared the frightening door songs). So, I ended up catching up. Did I mention that while in the house in front of which I killed my foot, I accidentally sat in a chocolate snack that someone had left in a seat? The room was dark so I didn't see it. So, there I was with chocolate all down my backside (I was wearing khakis) and a bleeding foot to boot!
Not a good day.
Moral of the story: Look before you sit and wear shoes that will hold you up when you're exhausted. Oh and make sure you driiiiiiiiiiiiink! We were all trying to look cute sipping our water but we ended up dehydrated.

I definitely agree that Dirty hair is never good to do. However, if someone is coming from sports practice, I think sports shorts/work out gear is ok--it shows that they wanted to be there so much that they came straight from practice. Also, as far as a uniform from work, to me, that also shows that they came straight from another important activity--working--and that they could very well be an asset to the sisterhood, because they value hard work. Again, this is dependent upon what sisterhood it is, though.
