"Four fraternities and five sororities will make presentations on campus to potentially receive an invitation to colonize at UT Tyler in the near future, Mindy Sutton, director of student development, announced."

And this:

"The initial goal is to yield two North American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) fraternities, two National Panhellenic Council (NPC) sororities and one fraternity and sorority from the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC). The first fraternities and sororities could arrive on campus as early as fall 2005, said Sutton."

The groups that presented:

Alpha Chi Omega (selected)
Delta Gamma (selected)
Gamma Phi Beta
Sigma Kappa
Zeta Tau Alpha

Chi Phi
Lambda Chi Alpha
Pi Kappa Phi
Sigma Alpha Epsilon (selected)

Looks like the two NPC sororities have been selected with one more NIC fraternity and the NPHC sorority and fraternity still to be announced.

By the way, any word if the 'near future' will be fall 2005?
I know that is what UT Tyler has said, but on Delta Gamma's website it said it was one of three NPC groups chosen. So no one is sure if there are 2 or 3 sororities. It is very possible that the university felt there was enough interest at UT Tyler to bring in 3 groups instead of just 2. Just a thought.

This is what I was told by our Director of Collegiate Extension.

We will be doing "Go greek" type efforts this semester along with the other two groups (DG and AXO). Recruitment will be conducted in late January.

When I was AGD Chapter Consultant for Extension I called on the dean -- the campus was either upper-division only or newly expanded from lower division, I can't remember which. I remember the call well--early November, 1974.

Evidently they weren't ready for NPC 31 years ago and haven't been until now!

update -

they finally have a greek life home page up.

fraternities: will colonize in the fall of 2006
pi kappa phi
sigma alpha epsilon

sororities: will colonize in the spring of 2006
alpha chi omega
delta gamma
gamma phi beta

i believe one fraternity and one sorority from the national pan-hellenic council has not been decided yet.

The Jan 16 '06 ussue of the local newspaper (Tyler Morning Telegraph) in Tyler has a short article about sorority recruitment beginning this week.

http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?n...d=227937&rfi=6

Excerpts:
Representatives from Alpha Chi Omega, Delta Gamma and Gamma Phi Beta will be on campus from Tuesday through Friday promoting Greek life . . . .

. . . orientation, held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the University . . . will explain the recruitment process . . . .

Female students enrolled for at least 12 hours this semester can register for recruitment in Room 111 of the University Center or download an application at www.uttyler.edu/greeklife. The deadline is Friday.

wow, I am from and live in Tyler when I come home from school and I had no idea that this was happening. I think that it is great for the city and the school and it could prosper into a great greek system in the future. Tyler is a very wealthy city with alot of old money and high-end greeks.
