I'm going through my mp3 collection.
Wolfie! They're a little strange and some people don't find them accessible but I love "You're Lucky I'm Skinny" and "Yeah Yeah You" and "Hello Saturday."
I forget if
Allister was mentioned yet but if so, those of you who like cheesy generic pop-punk (like me) will get a kick out of them. My favorites are "The One That Got Away" and "Pictures."
Basement Jaxx makes really dance-able music although they have been getting bigger lately so you might have heard of them (they had a song in the Bend It Like Beckham soundtrack).
More Wisconsin love:
the Benjamins are fantastic. Apparently there is a Welsh band by the same name but I imagine they aren't as good. They've got kind of a classic Weezer sound. Try "Gave It Away," "Wonderful" and "Sophia on the Stereo."
The Candyskins are the only Brit pop that I ever really liked. A little bit like Blur or Oasis but catchier.
The Weakerthans: a little bit emo/indie, but good emo.
Student Rick: Old school pop-rock -- a little Weezerish.
Sloan: I'm not sure how I'd classify these guys -- maybe in the Dismemberment Plan/Imperial Teens category, although they are catchier.
Reggie and the Full Effect: Really catchy pop-rock with a little punk thrown in for good measure. My favorites are "Your Boyfriend Hates Me" and "Everything's Okay."
Pat McCurdy: As far as I know, this guy's hit that epitomizes the college lifestyle, "Sex and Beer," has not left Wisconsin and Minnesota. It should. We always listened to it last year when we were drinking the dorms.
OK Go: These guys have gotten a little bigger lately so you might have heard of them too, but they make the catchiest good pop music that I have ever heard since Fountains of Wayne. I don't know anybody who hasn't become an immediate fan after hearing "You're So Damn Hot."
Motion City Soundtrack: I saw these guys last year opening for the Starting Line and they're great. They're starting to get really big within the pop/punk/rock circuit so if you start listening to them now you might beat the bandwagon.
Fall Out Boy: These guys are incredibly; they're my new favorite band. They come from the same pop-punk-with-a-touch-of-emo school that Starting Line and MCS do.
Mason Jennings: He's like all the boy singer-songwriter-guitarists that have cropped up lately but he's smarter. He's written some of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard, starting with "California" and "California #2" and "Darkness Between the Fireflies."
