While I am proud of being a Delta Zeta, I am more proud of the fact that I am GREEK. Numbers are important, but to be honest, I try and not get caught up in them. We do have the biggest number of intiated women and the reason I think this is so cool is because its makes me think, wow, all these beautiful women share in the same ceremony as I and share in the same experiences as I do. I do not think it is cool so I can tell all my friends and family, "hey, we're the 2nd largest nationally and have the most intiated members". Granted, its neat, but I don't use it as bragging rights.

Every sorority and fraternity is different for a reason. Each has its own individual history and traditions. I think we are all unique and I am proud to call each and everyone of you my greek brothers and sisters...NPC, NPHC, local etc., etc.

Greek love and mine,
Blaire

AOPi may have installed 178 college chapters - but I believe only about 110 of them are still around and active today.

I think that Chi Omega is the largest. And i know that Kappa Delta is among the top 5 but i'm not exactly sure which number.

Food for thought...

Because NPC operates on the quota total system, there is much less dispartity between # of active chapters, # of members, and # of alumnae. Chi Omega takes all three.

And, let's re-examine this whole largest women's organization in the world. It's not the Girl Scouts. It's the National Panhellenic Conference.

HRM.

Well the Girl Scouts are just part of WAGGGS (World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts). There are only like 2 countries where they're called Girl Scouts, the US and some obscure place. I'd be willing to bet that WAGGGS membership is higher than NPC membership. Unless you're just limiting it to the US....

LOL! Yeah for GC bickering!

If anyone cares, I am a proud and devoted member of both NPC and WAGGGS!

I have to agree...people pass away, people pledge and then drop out, people initiate and stay in, people initiate and then kind of decide that ehn, they don't want to continue their affiliation after college (my roommate )...it is impossible to tell in a "snap shot moment" how many live bodies each sorority has.

I think that it means how many initiates in total over the history of a sorority. My sorority and SDT were founded in 1917. NPC sororities founded in the 19th Century will probably have more initiates since some are 50+ years older.
