Not only did it cost France the game, it may have cost Zidane his reputation. He announced that he's retiring and the World Cup Finals would have been his last game ever. Now all that people are going to remember about him is him getting red carded and costing his team the game. Great way to go out.

Zidane may have lost it for France, but who knows what the outcome would have been. Bottom line it was a very classless act. There is always shit talking in sports, but there is never an excuse to do that. He could have killed him.

But anyways...

He's done something like this before, he stomped on the back of a Saudi Arabian defender who was on the ground some years ago.

I don't know what you say to someone that makes them that made, especially someone who's played "the beautiful game" for so many years but whatever. He's responsible for his own actions.

The Zidane headbutt was stupid, but it certainly didn't cost them the game. Their inability to make their penalty kicks cost them the game.

Also, considering many think the early foul to Zidane in the box wasn't worthy of a penalty kick, AND the offsides called on Italy's second goal was questionable, I don't think the headbutt really had any bearing on the outcome of the game. The outcome of Zidane's reputation is another story...

In a sad note to the 2006 World Cup:http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060711/..._official_shot

Berlin World Cup coordinator shoots self

BERLIN - The local World Cup coordinator for Berlin shot himself in the head hours after Sunday's final in an apparent suicide attempt.

Police spokeswoman Claudia Schulz on Tuesday confirmed newspaper reports that 65-year-old Juergen Kiessling had shot himself. She said there was no indication anyone else was involved, and she had no information on a possible motive.

The Bild daily reported Kiessling remains in a Berlin hospital.

Kiessling's duties for the World Cup included coordinating the "Fan Mile" near Berlin's Brandenburg Gate, a spot where hundreds of thousands of fans watched the matches on giant screens during the monthlong tournament.

While those are wrong, and Materazzi made a statement that he did not say those things, it's still no reason to do that. People talk shit during athletic events all the time.

Even if those Materazzi did make those statements, by headbutting him in the chest, all that Zidane did was prove him right.

Ha and you BELIEVE Materazzi??? This is a man who claims not to know what a terrorist is. You don't insult someone all in "good fun." I know sh-t talking in sports is commonplace, but when you involve family members, you've crossed the line.

I don't think Zidane's exit lost the game. That was definitely circumstantial; you can't predict how penalty kicks will go.

I didn't say it was all in good fun. I just said it's done in every sport and they should know better. I don't care what was said. If an Italian player had done that I would have been disgusted and it would have been a disgrace to our culture. Being insulted that badly, if Zidane is telling the truth, I would think would just push that player even harder to win. He doesn't deserve that award. He may have been an awesome player all these years and throughout the World Cup, but his act was disgraceful.

OH and another thing that I thought was ridiculous, petty, immature and showed VERY poor sportsmanship by the French.... the one player who received his medal and then took it off right away. You won a f*&(ing medal, be happy you made it that far! I heard of another player who also took his medal off but I don't remember who.

I wonder if they're going to swept the whole corruption scandal under the rug. Or will Juve be a Series C team.

i pretty much agree with you that Zidane shouldn't have done what he did. Stupid bonehead move. But I don't see why you are getting on that guys case for taking his medal off right away. Who cares? Do you realize he didn't just win the world cup? That medal he "won" was a consolation prize. He just lost a hard fought battle. Excuse him if he is still a little upset. It's not like he headbutted anyone in the chest. LOL

I'd rather watch a dude who headbutts someone for being an ass than a team that flops more than Manu Ginobili on a stack of pancakes.
