uhhhh, maybe i'm the ignorant one here, but just combing the hair with a comb has always worked for me. If your hair is too shaggy for that, try a brush.

But when guys don't use product their hair gets poofy and it doesn't stay in place!
My dad has used Groom & Clean for as long as I can remember. Guys don't have to have crunchy gelled hair. But I don't know any guy who has good looking hair that doesn't use something to control it.

So what is your definition of casual wear? How I was raised, casual was khaki pants and a tucked in polo or button down or slacks and a polo. I really don't think anyone is saying the South is the fashion capital of the US. We have a style that we like and that is appropriate for the surroundings that we were born and raised in. Personally, I don't give a shit if anyone likes it or not. I care much more about looking respectable and presenting myself in a positive manner to others. Down here, gelled hair, torn up abercrombie and hollister, and "vintage" faded too-tight t-shirts won't do that.

seriously? am i reading this?
Since when was the south the fashion capital of the US? I could've sworn that fashion was centered in New York (city) and LA.
And seriously? are a bunch of guys debating what can be worn before/after labor day etc?
give me a break! I hope you are not serious.
nothing described in these posts are casual wear at all all. Maybe good golf clothes or nice clothes for a less than casual occasion.
If you're a college student...dont' dress like you're 40 years old....but by all means dress accordingly to the event you are attending.
maybe i'm just not into rich yuppie looking guys.....give me a man in a pair of khakis cargos and a wrinkled and faded vintage (or faux vintage) t-shirt.

I guess you can't really help it if you are a fat ass. Allthough i'm sure most people would rather choose to look at a fat guy in a Polo than a fat guy in a too-small vintage t-shirt.
And actually, I never said that t-shirts aren't presentable. I wear party t-shirts to class often. I do think there is something wrong with buying a queer as t-shirt that doesn't fit and costs 50$+

The rule is Easter, not Memorial Day! Silly.

Here, the rule is Memorial Day although you are allowed an exception on Easter.

I think the South is Easter and the North is Memorial Day, because it gets warmer earlier than in the North. Although many Northerners don't follow the rule to begin with, so it doesn't really matter.

I wear very nice clothes, money is not the issue.....its the fact that those kinds of t-shirts are borderline faggish and should only be worn by guidos and gel heads.

That's the rule I know from growing up, and both Amy & Emily agree in their books. It applies to linen, seersucker, white, and straw accessories.
I have this tidbit from Serial Mom in my Facebook profile:
Beverly Sutphin: You can't wear white after Labor Day!
Juror #8: That's not true anymore.
Beverly Sutphin: Yes it is! Didn't your mother tell you?
[She whacks her in the face with the phone]
Juror #8: No! Please! Fashion has changed!
Beverly Sutphin: No... it hasn't.

This thread is really starting to scare me.
Anyway, this is what I was taught by my mommy, and I trust my mommy cause she used to buy things from stores in New York.
White after Easter till Labor Day.
Open toed shoes after Memorial Day till Labor Day.
Velvet after, umm, like November 1 I think, until March 1.
Letting your bra strap show on purpose means you are going to go to hell and die.
Fancy jewelry does not go with sporty clothing (polo is a sport).
And one of my own:
I like sweatshirts with shorts.
