Converse to pay tribute to HBGLO's

I read in VIBE that Converse is planning to release sneakers that pay tribute to eight of the nine HBGLO's. Each pair will be in the signature colors of the organization. Along with the short blurb regarding the sneakers was a picture of the sneakers for Alpha Kappa Alpha and Phi Beta Sigma.

Hmm, I wonder will Converse be donating a portion of the money from the sales of these shoes to each HBGLO's philanthrophy?

I'll have to read it again to see. I don't think that was mentioned though.

Question Greek Freak

In the latest edition of Vibe, with OUTKAST on the cover, Converse states that they are giving props to seven national black fraternities and sororities by releasing their classic basketball sneakers "the Weapon" and "Pro Leather" in each organizations official colors accented with the group's founding date on the heel. The shoes will make a limited appearance beginning October 1. The advertisement also stated "just in time to stomp them at the homecoming step shows." Alpha Kappa Alpha and Phi Beta Sigma colors are shown on the shoes located on page 100. What do you think about this?

what? no chuck taylor's?

Hmm. Interesting. I remember when there was the special edition Air Force One's for APhiA (although I don't think that was an official release, but more like one person's creativity). Since Nike bought Converse, I can see how they're capitalizing off what became very popular (the Black and Old Gold Air Force Ones).

Lopez, Affleck to Marry Next Week

NEW YORK (AP) - Supercouple Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are planning to marry next weekend on a hillside estate near Santa Barbara, Calif, The Daily News reported in its Wednesday editions.

Representatives for the two stars wouldn't comment on the reports.

Celebrity magazine Us Weekly reported the Sept. 14 wedding will be catered by Santa Barbara's Four Seasons Biltmore Hotel, where Lopez, 33, and Affleck, 31 recently dined.

It was unclear who will preside over the ceremony.

The 33-year-old actress-singer married dancer Chris Judd in a private ceremony in Calabasas, California, on Sept. 29, 2001, in an event garnished with 10,000 white and pastel rosebuds. The nuptials came just months after she broke off a highly publicized romance with hip-hop mogul Sean "P. Diddy" Combs. Lopez and Judd split in June 2002.

It will be Affleck's first marriage.

For her last wedding, Lopez wore a Valentino Couture off-white silk and Chantilly lace gown. this time, she's said to have turned to famed wedding gown designer Vera Wang.

Since appearing in 1990 as a "Fly Girl" dancer on the Fox variety show "In Living Color," Lopez has seen her career explode, with forays into music, film, television and - most recently - fashion.

Affleck and Lopez met on the set of film 'Gigli' and their romance spurned interest in the film, which ended up as the summer's biggest flop. Revolution Studios, which made "Gigli," and Sony Pictures, which distributed it, lost about $30 million, while real-life sweethearts Affleck and Lopez managed to remain virtually unscathed amid the movie's lousy reviews.

The two also star together in the upcoming film 'Jersey Girl.'

You would think they LEARNED from the first movie!!!!

Something to think about

1. Who are the 2 orgs not participating?

2. How will they/Will they patrol if MEMBERS are the ones really buying the shoes? Meaning how will they prove that an AKA is really buying the shoes?

Found this on the Velvet Rope Website:

Looks like the greenlight is on for the Tim Story-directed big-screen movie adaptation of the 1970's sitcom "Good Times". Yes, Black people, I said, "GOOD TIMES"! And every African-American actor seems to be salivating to work on this film that is looking to be a real hoot (and why not? When I heard of this project, I thought "instant hit. Every Black person in America from 20-45 grew up on this show"). As I type this, Cedric The Entertainer is inking to play Bookman. Every Wayans brother and sister wants a part of this. Angela Bassett (believe it or not) is in talk for the Esther Rolle role ("DAMN! DAMN! DAMN!"). And who has expressed fervent interest in playing the part of sexy, nosey, single neighbor Willona? None other than.. Janet Jackson (the former Penny)! The film is also supposed to have tons of cameos from A-list Black actors playing colorful hoodrats from the projects... Halle Berry, Sam Jackson, etc. And speaking of ghetto hoodrats, Whitney Houston is being courted to sing the theme song ("just looking out of the window / Watching my Afro grow" ... how serendipitous is that?

They mentioned possibly Chris Rock or Dave Chapelle for J.

Dave Chapelle should play JJ. Since Janet Jackson wants to play Wilona, I wonder who they will get to play Penny?

Good question. I was at an open, public street fair in SD a couple of weeks ago, and there was a vendor there with NPHC items. It was nice to have her there, but I also wondered about monitoring.

I don't know about monitoring, but we've gotten real serious about trademark protection in recent years. Vendors may not like the new stringency, but I'm sure it's still worth it to them, cause bruhs lose our minds at conventions when it comes to buying paraphaenalia. ... Besides the para shops here (NE Ohio) are so lame, conventions represent the best buying opportunities.

I was in Denver in March for our Western regional, and even the old heads, or shall I say, senior brothers, were buying in large quantities. Just doing our part to help the economy....

TV Guide Online:

STORMY WEATHER APPROACHING: Janet Jackson has signed on to portray Lena Horne in ABC's upcoming musical-biopic on the singer-actress, Variety reports. Michael's sis is expected to record new takes on Horne's classic songs, including her signature tune "Stormy Weather." Craig Zadan and Neil Meron — the folks behind Chicago — will produce the two-hour TV-movie

The thought of trademark ran across my mind also. I'm sure the merchandise may have the 'colors' but is it something authentic. Some things are registered. I'm sure that companies are not willing to set themselves up for a lawsuit.

It was reported....

On the Russ Parr Morning Show that Janet Jackson and Jermaine Dupri broke up....word is that she broke up with him over the phone.

I dont know if you have seen it, but Brandy is in the new Jet with baby daughter Sy'rai. She (baby girl) is getting so big. She looks like her father (I mean Robert) and she is so adorable.
