I am so happy for you! One is always better than none! Being here in Akron I wish I could help somehow, but being an alumna of ADPi at The University of Akron I do not think there is much I can do other than support you and your chapter verbally.
I heard of your chapter when I was an undergrad because I was dating a Sigma Nu at Akron and so was one of your sisters...that was over 5 years ago so I cannot remember her name. I do remember at that time your chapter was thinking of going national...but I guess that did not go through.
I give you and your sisters all of my support! Best wishes and contact your Alums...as being a very active ADPi alum...we spread the word even better than the collegiates!! Contact your alums and have them look for women to recommend. We get some of ours when a former sister is a teacher and there are seniors getting ready to attend Akron...also younger siblings....I recommended my cousin and my younger sister's best friend from HS (my sister goes to Miami of Ohio) a few years ago...they are both members now and are chapter VPs!!
Get the word out...its the best you can do and it seems you are doing an excellent job at that!!

Hey, Im having the same problem here. My sorority has only been on campus-well this would be our second semester. Well this semester the girls that were remaining dropped leaving everything, pledging, bid day, all that stuff, to me. I have three girls thus far and I am kinda afraid of losing them. Its hard being all the chairs and getting to things and all. I do need help with getting girls in. Two of the now locals are going national by like April I believe and I know its going to be hard competition getting freshmen in the summer. I am pretty worried but I won't give up. Also, we do not have an advisor....PLEASE GIVE ME SOME POINTERS ON GETTING ONE!!! I am so desperate I'd even ask a janitor, if they are allowed, to be our advisor...help me out!

Hollister DXiChi, I don't know how your school does this, but at my school, the student activities people have a list of faculty that can be advisors. You should find out if your school has one, and if it does, you can go to those teachers's offices and ask them about it. Good luck! Pm me if you have any other questions/concerns.

Possibly Quitting
Okay, so I know that I've been the Phi Gam cheerleader, but I can't take this anymore. I can't do everything anymore and my sisters seem to not do much compared to everything I've done. This has taken a tole on my grades, my personal relationships, and my relationship with God (a very big part of my life). I feel like I'm letting my sorority down because once I quit, we'll fold. I dunno... There's the latest update from my neck of the woods.

All I can say is hang in there girl. Don't give up. Running DXi on my own is really hard. Im taking some hard classes too that require a lot of my time. But also running this sorority requires a lot of my time. You can only do so much at a time. Budget your time and keep to it. Give yourself this much time for the sorority and that much time for school and keep to it. Like I said, you can only do so much-you only have so many hands and so many legs. The ladies in my sorority thought that as President I was supposed to do absolutely everything-Im not. There are chairs and offices that are assigned specific duties and they should keep to them and not expect you to do everything...thats not how it works. There is no U in Sisterhood (that was cheesey, yeah I know ) ...make time for yourself, school and your sorority and Do Not Give up or Give In! Good luck girl!

Sometimes I really think it's better for a chapter to close than to continue struggling - if you're truly lacking in members and are having a hard time accomplishing anything due to your size, why stay open? Sure, sororities are work, but they're also supposed to be fun.

It also depends on how long they have been trying. Did she say how long their sorority had been up and running? I may have missed that but if its only been like a semester or two...don't close down. You may want to try new ways of getting girls in, make your sorority a little more "appealing"-a sisterhood girls would want to join. I dunno...If you are not happy in it and you know that feeling wont change anytime soon...you know what you need to do Good luck with whatever decision that is :

Officially Quitting
As much as I love my sisters, I feel newly betrayed. I talked to the Greek advisor about Songfest while we were at Panhel last night and I felt like a moron. She explained to me that our Songfest chair and IGPB rep should have done more than complain to me that they had no idea of what was going on. She explained to me that they should have approached people and they didn't. As I said, I feel embarrassed and betrayed because had my sisters put in even a little bit of effort we would be participating in Songfest.
Please do not think this in the only factor because it's much more than feeling betrayed- I need a sisterhood where not only can I trust my sisters, but I will not be doing all of the work. I also need a sisterhood that is more than just four or five friends whom depend on one person to make the sorority survive. Sororities are about teamwork. I need a sorority I can put my heart into and, quite honestly, my heart is no longer in Phi Gamma Pi. Thank you all for your support.

Hugs.
Your decision is understandable. Kudos to you for putting your heart into the group though - although it was a challenge from the start of the thread you did persevere against the odds; like the old James Brown (?) lyrics, it is better to die on your feet than live on your knees.
When it comes to a point that something has irretrievably ended or broken down however, that is the time to step backwards from it. Knowing that and acting on it can take courage.
That1LoudChick, well done. Well done.

Disaffiliated
I de-activated/disaffiliated from Phi Gamma Pi last night. I wish my former sisters the best of luck. A colony of ABC will be up-and-running in the fall so I may look there, but right now I'm focusing on my relationships as well as my studies. I think the best thing anyone said to me was when my Big called me last night and said "You always have a place here." I honestly think that was one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me.
