I ordered the plain gold pendant badge holder last Monday. I envision wearing it almost daily. I work in a corporate office so a lot of people wear nice clothes and jewelry to work. I'll certainly wear it more than I would as just a pin.

mine
when i picked out my badge i threw in a few extra so i could have a "pretty" badge, i went for the pearls on the corners, rather than the plain gold phi mu badge. But i really love the phi mu CZ&Ruby badge, and one day i will have a cz & ruby...
I don't know where to find badge pics, but when i do, i will post them.

I'm glad I splurged when I was initiated. I figured I was going to be broke for paying initiation fees, so why not be completely broke and purchase the badge I figured I'd like for the rest of my days. It was about $90 20 years ago. I think now it's about $120.
I only "upgraded", to add the necklace circle pendant to clip the badge onto. Bought it at a convention in 2001. I'm very happy with it. It has given me more occassions to wear it (because I don't have to spend 30 minutes trying to pin on the badge, dangles and alumnae award). I wear it with certain outfits that it works well with.
If you're looking for more opportunities to wear it, start going back to the chapter, like as an adviser, and you'll find plenty of occasions to wear it.

The upgraded badges are beautiful but I do have a serious-not serious question. It seems that the prices are getting outrageous. I love my badge but I would never pay almost $900 for one. I'd be interested to know how many the jeweler has actually sold.
I realize that the cost depends the amount of gold, diamonds, etc., but, I assume, MOST of the $$$ badges are purchased by alumanae decades out of school. It would be interesting to see a valid survey of alumnae members in different orgd to see how many actually wear a badge, ring, etc. (or even know where the badge is
Maybe on my AGD 50th anniversary, I'll order a badge with diamond(s).

$900 ?
AGDLynn,
Where do you get $900 from ? I'd say it's been about 2 years since I've seen the badge order form, but I sure don't remember any amount listed that was close to that ! The highest I remember was about $210. What am I missing ?
ps. The all diamond badge can only be worn by someone elected as the International President.

SpartyGirl, you're correct in that Alpha Gam doesn't really have any badges more expensive than around $250. However I think that Lynn was talking about other NPCs who have the option of purchasing some *drop-dead, jewel encrusted, gorgeous* badges that retail for over $1000.
And while only the International President can wear the all-diamond badge (which I have seen up close and--oh-my God--its breathtaking), Alpha Gams *can* purchase a badge with 3 or 4 diamond points and pearls.
When my hypothetical future daughter joins Alpha Gam, I will pin her with my Crown Pearl and upgrade myself to the diamonds and pearls badge.

That's actually one of the questions we asked our members in our survey last Fall. The answer that we found (of those who responded) was that not many wear it. If they are still involved (which most of our respondents were involved somehow by default) they usually only wore it on founders Day.

That was actually a question I had. I know that as an alumna initiate, I won't have nearly as many opportunities to wear my badge as someone who was initiated as a collegian (unless I turned it into a pendant or a ring - and I'm not a pendant kind of girl).
As much as I'd love to have the bling-bling Alpha Phi badge, I'm starting to wonder if it's really a good idea, given that it'll mostly sit in a box unworn.

I wear my badge a lot more as an alum than I did as a collegian. You can also get a badge that you know you'll wear as a ring. Linda Boland got one about a year and a half ago that is white gold set with diamonds and she wears it on a white gold band. It is GORGEOUS. If I were to get another non-lazy-phi badge I would definitely pattern it after hers (except I'd have to save up quite a long time to get the diamonds, so I'd probably get the pearls).

That is the problem with Badges. Not being able to wear them enough. Founders Day or Home Coming Dinners.
It seems today that many Actives dont wear/own Badges or letters.
I have several that I rotate when I can have the chance to wear them.
LXA have the 9.00 very basic badge, yellow/white gold, white costing extra. A wide assortment of gems with the highest going for $210. The all Diamond Badge is a call for quote. Guess afraind to put that on site!
Damn would I love one in Yellow and White Gold, all Diamonds.
If nothing else, Badges are such a great rememberences.
It is nice to back to functions with a Great Looking Badge!!!!!
lauradav, where do get to wear your Badges. That is great!

I say get what you want, regardless of how often you may or may not be able to wear it. The way I look at it is that I know of plenty of women who save beautiful pieces of jewelry for special occasions

Ooh..another white gold badge! I'd love to see that ring - as a matter of fact, I'd love to see any Alpha Phi badge that has been made into a ring! Did she have Master's of Design do the work, or was it done locally?
*dreams of a white gold and pearl/cz badge*

When I was initiated, I didn't even know that white gold was an option. I wish they would've shown white gold badges in the little pamphlet we got when ordering because I would've gotten one. I did end up springing for the pearl/diamond one, but I rarely wear it because I hardly ever wear yellow gold.
I would love to do a pendant or ring, but when I've looked at the Masters of Design site I don't see any of those do-it-yourself pendant or ring holders like I've seen for other org's badges. I'm too poor to have something custom made right now!
