I went to ADPi and Delta Delta Delta the night of preference, and if it wasn't HIGHLY discouraged (and I wasn't going through as a sophomore, which isn't as big a deal at my campus), I probably would have suicided ADPi (even though the Tri-Deltas at my campus are great and a great chapter, I just didn't fit in with them like I did with the ADPis!)

It was highly discouraged at my school to suicide... but I suicided kappa anyway, I had a lot of friends in ADPi but I didn't feel that same sister-like connection as I did with Kappa on pref night. I got the scariest sounding question though when I handed in my suicide. The way the girl asked to confirm that I was suiciding made it sound like I had comitted an evil act or something o.O

I went to ADPi & Chi Omega and I "suicided" Chi Omega.

(Now if Honeychile had prefed me? We might have had a different outcome?)

And THAT would have made me think twice about suiciding, too! But it all worked out for me, although my chapter has now closed (I'm glad that you had a lot of friends from my chapter, it's always nice to hear that! )

I went to Theta and Alpha Xi Delta and Pref night just confirmed even more that I wanted to be a Theta. It's where I'd felt the most comfortable all week long.

When did you go through recruitment? I'm in the *well, no I am alumnae* AOII in Greeley

I was kind of disappointed when I went through recruitment at UNC. My best friend is a KD legacy and her mom used to tell us about KD alot. There isn't a KD chapter at UNC, but we went through anyways. I only went to 1 house for pref, but we can go to 2. I went to AOII and I knew it was where I was meant to be. I know AOIIAngel knows what I mean cause she's my pledge class sister and she was ballin' her eyes out like I was! There are only 5 houses on campus, so our quota is usually really small.

I'm glad I'm an AOII, cause, even though it sounds cheesy, I can let my light shine!

I went to Tri Delt, Phi Mu and ADPi. I was a mess during the the Tri Delt party because I had no clue what to do but during the Phi Mu party, I knew and it was such a great feeling! I still had one party to go but I couldn't wait to fill out my pref card. I had to be a Phi Mu! I can't wait for Pref day this year. It's going to be awesome to see how it affects the new girls.

I went to Kappa and Tri-Delt . . . both were so great. It was a hard decision for me, but I know I made the right choice. Although I think in a lot of instances, you can be happy in more than one house.

I'm from Colorado, but went to school in NH . . . what is the sorority life like at UNC? A lot of my friends went to CU Boulder.

Schmeer,

Where did you go to school? (I would have Private Messaged you, but you don't have a PM box!)

I prefed Adpi and Alpha Phi. I think I would have been very happy in both, but chose ADPi

ADPi ended up losing thier chapter this past semester (the one I joined kappa during) and a lot of people saw it coming I think since I don't remember them getting anyone from formal recruitment, it was really sad... they did get some COB's before they were closed down though...

It was really rough on the campus to lose ADPi.

I only went to Alpha Gam - and it was fine with me, because that was the only place I wanted to be. I was crying all through pref ceremony.

Well I went to ADPi and that was it. I didn't suicide or anything, I just went through informal spring recruitment. I actually attended Pref Night already having received my bid. LOL.

Okay, I hate to sound really, really stupid but this whole bid matching thing, no matter how many times I've read it, does not make sense.

Okay, so let's say I rush and I pref KKG, Theta & Pi Phi. So then I rank them and I put Pi Phi first, KKG second and Theta third. So then the chapters do their lists. To make sure I'm understanding this correctly. So for me to "end up" Pi Phi, Pi Phi would have had to put me on their 1st bid list? What would have happened if they put me on their second? What about if since I put KKG second and they put me first? Would the "crosscut" thing come into play? And what about Theta? If they were my third choice where would I have to be on their lists?

I'm sorry for the endless questions but I've never done a formal recruitment so this really doesn't make sense to me but I really want to understand so that I know how to better help my sisters (as an alum) during recruitment.

Thanks in advance to whomever steps to the plate to answer my questions

OK I'll try to explain...I actually do bid matching as an adviser but it is SO hard to explain in writing how it works.
If you put Pi Phi first and you were on their 1st bid list then you would match Pi Phi. If however, you put Pi Phi first and you were not on their 1st Bid list your bid card would be put on "hold" until either a Pi Phi spot opened up (by those on their first bid list putting another sorority first and being matched elsewhere) or until Pi Phi had filled quota at which time your named would be called for your second choice. If you were on Pi Phis second bid list you could receive a bid from them if those on their 1st bid list went to other sororites causing your name to move up on Pi Phis bid list.
A PNMs bid card will remain on hold until all spots in their #1 choice have been filled at which time their name will start being called for their 2nd choice. If they are on the 1st bid list of their second choice then that would be a match. If they are on the 2nd bid list of their 2nd choice then they their card would be put on hold until their 2nd choice had either filled qouta or the PNMs name had moved up on their bid list and matched.
If you had still not been matched to a sorority and if your third choice had not filled qouta your name would be called for them. If you were on their 1st bid list then you would match. If you were on their second list then you would match if for the same reasons listed above for choice 1 and 2. If you still did not match it is possible to be locked out of a bid altogether...it doesn't happen often but I have seen it happen.
Now clearly after I just went back and read what I typed I realize how unclear it sounds. If you could get someone to show you on paper by using example bid lists it would make so much sense. And I must admit that the 1st time I set through a bid matching session I almost fell out of my chair I was so confused. But after one go round it really seems simple.
