I am the first greeke in the family....my sis will be an SDT legacy when she starts college in 2 years however I dont know if she in intrested....

My big brother is in a business fraternity called PSE, but I'm the first in my family to join a social GLO. My family doesn't really believe in the Greek system, but I'm slowly changing their minds.

maternal grandmother - KKG
fraternal grandmother - KKG
maternal grandfather - sigma nu
aunt- chi o
aunt - kkg
aunt- kkg
aunt -kkg lol my dad has 4 sisters !
uncle - phi delt
uncle - beta
and then me ! DELTA GAMMA !

This is off the top of my head, may be missing a few but here it goes:

Me: Tri- Sigma
Dad: Omega Psi Phi
Grandfather: Omega Psi Phi
Grandmother: Delta Sigma Theta
2 Aunts: Delta Sigma Theta
Aunt: Alpha Kappa Alpha
Uncle: Kappa Alpha Psi
Cousin: Kappa Alpha Psi
Cousin: Sigma Gamma Rho
Cousin: Alpha Kappa Alpha
Boyfriend: Omega Psi Phi

Have 2 other cousins that want to rush DST very badly. Hope they get it! I'm also the only one that didn't pledge a traditionally black sorority. But it doesn't matter cause my family supports everything that I do, and strongly support the Greek community all the way around!

SigKapQueen, I agree that membership is for a lifetime. However, I think when people say "I was a GLO at University of State," they mean they are no longer an active but an alum. A lot of times I'll say "I'm a Kappa" but have been guilty of saying "I was a Kappa at Ole Miss" when I want the person to know where.

Neither my Mom or Dad were Greek, although my Mom always says she wished she had gone through rush. Her cousin was a Pi Phi at IU and she said she wished she had gone through with her. I had a lways heard my grandmother was a DG and found out for sure by contacting DG with her name. (She passed a while back

My mom was in a local back in the 50s, but they don't exist at SIUC anymore. My great-uncle was the only other Greek in my family. He was a founder of Lambda Chi Alpha at Washington and Lee around 1920. I didn't even know he was in a fraternity until I joined Phi Sigma Kappa and my (then) 95-year-old great aunt asked me if I would like some of his things. Since I'm the only Greek in my family, I keep an old composite picture and his shingle on the wall of my office, next to mine!
