A GC Hypothetical
Let's say that there is someone who posts on a message board, perhaps a message board just like GC. As is often the case when posting on message boards, over time she gets close to some of the other people who post there. What nobody realizes at first, however, is that her entire identity is a lie. She's a fake. She's not who she says she is -- she uses a fake name and pretends to belong to an organization when in reality she does not. She even posts fake pictures.
All is well in her pretend world for a while, but eventually people start to catch on to the lies. Her lies were pretty big and looking back on it, easily discoverable. Eventually she is "outed" and everybody finds out the truth. Some people are hurt because she lied to them for so long and they trusted her. Some people feel sorry for her, and some are angry. Nobody really understands why she created a fake internet identity and played it off for so long. Once it's all out in the open, she vanishes. I mean really, what else could she do?
But does she really vanish? Not in our little hypothetical. A mere three days after vanishing, she starts posting again on the message board, under a different name. She makes no reference to her previous identity. This time she claims to be from a different school. She's learned from her mistakes the first time and reveals much less information about herself, but again pretends to belong to an organization to which she does not in fact belong. She's much more quiet about it this time, but people can't be fooled all of the time, especially not people who have suspected that she was still around. Eventually, someone figures out that she is in fact the same person -- that the person who created an entire fake identity to use while posting on a message board and got caught actually came back and created an entirely different fake identity to post on the same message board.
What would you think of that?
