I thought MSNBC was showing exclusive coverage of Olympic games. I'm not sure of NBC schedule itself. USA and Bravo network are showing coverage as of Sunday.

The Women's Swimming was perhaps the most interesting to watch... the 400m relay was so close that it literally came down to tenths of a second. Congrats on the US swimming medals

Also I would strongly recommend to anyone who can watch it on CBC... yes their will be a Canadian bias, but they cover pretty much every event (and very well) even when Canada (or the US) isn't in the competition, but they cover the whole event to the end with little annoying commentary (stick to facts).

By the way one of those 300 CBC employee's is a Lambda Chi from Toronto... go Bailey!

More to it than that... IOC has been pissed at the US of A since Atlanta in 1996. Primarily because the ACOG (Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games) was lax in enforcing Olympic trademarks. There was way too much commercialism going on, especially with street vendors hawking unauthorized merchandise with the Olympic logos. Pissed off then-IOC president Juan Antonio Samaranch - you could tell because he was less than his usual effusive self during the closing ceremonies.

Since then, the IOC has seriously tightened merchandise licensing procedures. Below is a good explanation on the laws protecting the use of Olympic emblems:

Quote:
The Olympic symbol, often thought of as available for general use, is protected under Section 110 of the Amateur Sports Act of 1978, 36 U.S.C. §220506, protecting various designations associated with the Olympics. Under 36 U.S.C. §220506(a), the United States Olympic Committee has the exclusive right to use the name “United States Olympic Committee,” its symbol and emblem, and the words “Olympic,” “Olympiad,” “Citius Altius Fortius,” “Pan American,” “Paralympiad,” “America Espirito Sport Fraternite,” or any combination thereof. Olympic is particularly troubling because it has a general or generic usage and its restriction touches upon free speech. Nevertheless. the United States Supreme Court has held that the grant by Congress to the United States Olympic Committee of the exclusive right to use the word “Olympic” does not violate the First Amendment, and 36 U.S.C. §220506(c), would make any person Olympic or any simulation of the words “Olympic,” “Olympiad” or “Citius Altius Fortius” liable. For example, “Gay Olympic Games,” would be proscribed.

That's why you see in many commercials by Olympic sponsors (McDonald's, etc.) "36 USC 220506", acknowledging the ownership of the Olympic trademarks via the US Olympic Committee.

Moscow - Hosted it in 1980, dunno if their economy is stable enough to host another one, or to rebuild or construct new venues.
Toronto - Longshot.
Sao Paulo and Rio - Longshot. Outside of the main streets is crippling poverty and rampant crime.
Leipzig - Longshot. Still recovering from 40 years of communism.
Havana - Has already hosted the Pan American Games; however the Cuban exile community in Miami is a very powerful voice to be reckoned with... I wouldn't be surprised if they call for a boycott of the U.S. team if Havana ever gets an Olympics while Fidel is in power.

I'm glued to Gymnastics (Men's and Women's)...I like swimming and diving also. Those will be the ones that I tune into the most.

And for the record....Blaine Wilson is HOT! I've been in love with that guy since the first time I saw him! But since he's married, I might just go to Australia and marry Ian Thorpe instead!!

I think it is pretty crappy what that judge told Blaine and Jason Gatson the day before their first round on High Bar. Both of them could've done better, but unfortunately their minds weren't quite together since they had to change their routine.

Given that list, I'd love to see it in North America. Toronto is really a great city and I know the olympics there would be a great experience.

But nothing up there could touch New York.

Huh? They didn't qualify? I find that hard to believe... you can use any players accept the 25 men listed on the rosters of the Major League...

No, the US didn't qualify. They were eliminated in the preliminaries.

The US Mens BB team SUCKS! Down by 20 against Puerto Rico.

Pathetic.

Puerto Rico isn't even a country.

They lost? Whoa. Does that mean that they either gotten worst, or the rest of the world are getting better?

Puerto Rico isn't even a country.
It's a commonwealth, or 'Estado Libre Asociado' (in Spanish) of the United States. Puerto Ricans are considered U.S. citizens by birth. Every five years, Puerto Ricans vote on whether to remain a commonwealth, become independent or become a state. Naturally, they've voted for commonwealth status.

Down by 20 against the PR? Something's definitely wrong with the so-called 'dream team'!
