If he did in fact try to join an organization (which I don't believe he did), Iota was not the organization.

LMAO. That's been happening for years. The stats show that MOST of our youth don't plan on going to college. They CANNOT get out of grade school (standardized tests, etc), so how are they going to college? They are interested (most) in FAST MONEY which does NOT equate with getting a BA, MA, JD, PhD.

Sad. But true. Kanye "dropping out" won't change that. They do see that a brotha dropped out and is "making it". I don't like that, but oh well. EVERYONE doesn't have TALENT like that, nor the resources to do so.

IMO, those who are going (those without a choice) will go, those who are not won't.

Re the title of this thread: Who said that Kanye pledged anything? The man and his writers are throwing out lyrics/rhymes. Who says it's true? It could be someone else's "story".

If he pledged and "depledged" COOL. If he didn't COOL.

I don't like Kanye as a rapper....I just spent a semester analyzing his lyrics, and they are not very complex in my opinion. I only like a couple songs on his CD. Not to mention that he's conceited, arrogant, and discouraging a generation of Black men from attending college, which isn't very smart...

I wouldn't be surprised if he dropped line...But he isn't the first and he won't be the last...

All of your other comments, I agree with. The quotes around the word greeks were definitely unneccessary. But I don't think those of us in NPC/IFC realized that BGLO are considered businesses instead of houses. I'd always wondered (but didn't want to offend any of my friends) why the names of the Divine Nine contain the w ord Incorporated. Thanks for educating us! I'm sorry if anything in this post made me sound ignorant, I'm just not as familiar with the terminology of the NPHC organizations.

I don't think he did either. If the lyrics are about him, they clearly imply that he DID NOT pledge.

The "Inc." in our organizations' names has been discussed on these boards in the past, and a simple search should do the trick.

It wasn't lost on me, I just didn't think that it was necessary as what you had said previous to it was right on the ball.

I'm sorry you didn't think it was necessary.

Anyway,

Regarding Kanye and the whole greek thing. I want to know WHY he mentions greek life so much in music (on his CD and the Dilated Peoples song). Is he really jocking that part of college life, or did he know that if he mentions greeks he would have an instant audience? I heard people are using School Spirit for yard shows and what not (although, I question the gansta and pimp part of the hook).

I just had a quick question/comment for those who say Kanye's lyrics and content arent all that great...as far as popular mainstream rap goes...whose lyrics/content have meaning? Most mainstream music is pretty fluffy if you think about it...and I think Kanye was pretty creative in this album because he tackled a topic that not many rappers had before..I'm sure there are a bunch of famous rappers that went to college at some point, but none of them really talk about it, all they talk about is their money or whatever (you know all that stereotypical crap) for the most part.

I'm not saying everyone has to like his music, I'm just saying that I think people should give it more of a chance, especially if all they have heard is the stuff played on the radio...cuz the entire CD is amazing.
