Greek Teachers?

Hypocrites to say the least. Right E C?

I knew of One Individual, Dr. Reilly, my Law Professor, who was a TKE.

Now, in this day and age, it is a good idea to get a Acadamian, to be a Advisor. Why? Well, supposedly they are smarter!

Oh, E C, it is still right unless you are a small business man like ME!

I have no idea how many AKA's I've had as teachers over the years. I know that our temporary Principal (she had been a VP for a while), another VP, and 3 teachers were all AKA's. You could always tell, they all had license plate covers on their cars, and they usually parked close together. Most of them had their keys on AKA lanyards, and other than that they would sometimes spice up the usual teacher clothes with a pink + green scarf or ensemble.

I found out my professor for my philosophy class was a Delta Sigma Theta sister sort of by accident. I had to go to her office to tell her that I wasn't going to be in class, and she had this large plaque on the wall of her office with those letters and an elephant on it. Didn't mean much to me at the time, but once I began rushing...it all made sense.

i'm sure tons of faculty are alumns of the OC glo's. I know a lot of the guys are. You can sort of tell, every once in a while they bust out the old school jackets. I think my art history professor may have been a member of my org...she dropped an awful lots of hints about loving our mascot in class, and she wore our colors on the appropriate days...never really mentioned anything about it directly to me, and I always have letters on me.

I was a high school teacher who made mention of it:

I taught my 9th grade World History students the Greek alphabet when we studied the Greeks..

I wore my Chi Omega crest sweatshirt to high school basketball games...

I took the high school cheerleaders to the Chi Omega lodge to discuss pep rally ideas with former cheerleaders...

I will probably be that teacher who ALWAYS wears lettered items on dress down days, and relates greek life to almost everything in her class. I might even sneak a plug for greek life in for my seniors.

My high school band director is a Phi Mu Alpha (who would have thunk it ). I've had several teachers who were Alpha Kappa Alphas, Alpha Phi Alphas, and Delta Sigma Thetas.

My cheerleading coach was a phi mu, she is still in her twenties and has a ton of shirts still so she always wears them to practice, my assitant cheerleading coach was a theta, my freshman english teacher had a delta gamma paper wait in her office so I'm assuming that means she was a dg, and the college counsilor has wood block cut out letters for chi o on a book shelf. I'm sure there are more, but thats all I can rememeber right now.

Oh and the dean of students at my high school is from the Kappa Alpha Order. Before any dances or big events the girls and guys get split up and get talks about being ladies and gentlemen. Anyways, all the guys say that he has never not brought up KA in some way at these meetings and how it was founded on being a gentleman and all that good stuff.

The basketball coach at my high school is a Sigma Pi....what's weird is that I didn't find that out until I got to college and became friends with the brothers of his chapter!! Whenever I visit my hs, I always have to smile when I see him!

I and almost every teacher that I know is HEAVILY involved in the community and in community clubs/organizations.

You may be somewhere there is little mobility. I never saw much
involvement in the Jaycees, service or fraternal clubs, with any of
the teachers in my forty plus years around the ed biz.
Teachers are a mobile lot, too, and that does not enhance the
laying down of roots as it does in other professions.
Ask almost anybody in almost any town about involvement in the
civic side...for teachers. Many feel they wear a hair shirt. But it
may indeed be true, there in Tennessee, that you have a very active cadre.
College teachers are even less involved....

Hmmm, now that I've thought about it...

My English teacher in 11th grade was obsessed with pink. Everything in her room was pink....well, not everything. Those horrid desks could never be pink...maybe she's a Phi Mu?

No clue about my other teachers, but I'm sure there are some that are Greek.

I know of at least one now that is here at Florida Tech.

My sorority sister is a high school Chemistry teacher. She plasters her desk with ACW stuff ... she actually gets us PNMs as she finds out they are coming to our university and will encourage them to rush...

I do remember having a basic computer class during my sophmore or freshmen year of college. I remember that he was a TKE. He talked about his TKE days a lot because he was an alum of my college. He also pointed out his fraternity brothers in the class.
